33 - First scan - Brollins

I woke up, my back aching and a headache brewing but I couldn't help the smile forming on my face as I remembered today is my first scan. Today me and Seth will be able to see our tiny baby for the very first time. Having two children already I'm used to scans but they're always still a tear-jerking affair for me, especially the first scan.

I rolled over in bed to find the place next to me empty, my smile grew as I remembered that today was supposed to be my day to wake up early and sort the kids out for school. I spotted a note lying on Seth's side table, so I reached over and grabbed it. 'Thought you could do with the sleep, I've taken the kids to school and remember the appointment is at 11:30 x' I yawned looking over at the clock to see I have about an hour before I need to be there which means I have enough time to shower, drink some water and have something to eat for breakfast.

I sat on my living room sofa waiting for Seth to finish freshening up, it's almost time for our appointment and I'm very excited and nervous. I'm only 7 weeks pregnant, so they might not be able to see our baby yet but we're hopeful. Because I'm on my third baby my stomach is already resembling a bump and my boobs have definitely gone up a cup size, which isn't unusual but it'll be nice to see my tiny baby on the screen, to know that everything is okay.

"Becks you ready to go?" Seth appeared from the doorway and I nodded slowly, waiting for him to pull me up off the sofa. He grabbed my hands and he pulled me up into his arms. "I'm nervous." I spoke quietly as we got into the car. "Don't be, you've had all the normal pregnancy symptoms and nothings been unusual? Everything's going to be fine, okay honey?" I hesitantly nodded as he started the car, now wanting this scan to be over with as quick as possible.

We stepped into the clinic and my midwife was immediately calling us into a room, I stepped in nervously making my way over to the bed and laying down, reaching out to grab Seth's reassuring hand. "Good Morning Rebecca, if you could just roll your top up for me we'll take a look at how baby is doing." I rolled up my top and winced as the cold gel was squeezed into my stomach. My midwife grabbed the wand off the machine and she placed it onto my visible bump, she scanned a little before stopping making my heart fall out of my chest.

"What is it? Why have you stopped!?" I spoke shakily as my midwife looked up at me. "It's nothing bad!" She rushed out, causing a slight relief. "I'm just surprised that's all, Rebecca you're pregnant with twins." She turned the monitor to face us and I saw two little blobs on the screen, I couldn't help but stare in awe as tears started to form in my eyes.

"Seth we're having twins." I whispered, turning to him and seeing the same look of adoration in his face. "Now the bump and the boobs make sense." I nodded, lacing both my hands together with his as I leant my forehead against his shoulder. "We're gonna have four kids..." I let my tears fall down, happiness coursing through my every vein as our midwife handed us the photo. "Congratulations you two, you're going to be great parents of four."

I mouthed a 'thank you' to her before turning back Seth and planting a soft kiss on his lips, which he melted into, draping his arms lovingly around my back. "We're actually having twins..." Seth started to trace over the tattoos on my back, humming against my shoulder. "I'd say this is the best first scan we've had yet."

"So you're saying this was better than when Vince did my first ever ultrasound in gorilla." Seth chuckled, breaking away from me for just a moment to grab the roll of kitchen towel. "Well that could be argued, now let's get you home to rest and I'll cook you something nice, after all you are eating for three."
