CHAPTER TWO
old friends and new ones

"
Tenzin.
Aang and Fire Lord Zuko transformed the Fire Nation colonies into the United Republic of Nations, a society where benders and nonbenders from all over the world could live and thrive together in peace and harmony. They named the capital of this great land, Republic City. Avatar Aang accomplished many remarkable things in his life. But sadly, his time in this world came to an end. And like the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of the Avatar began anew.

Ikki was ecstatic, she couldn't wait to see Avatar Korra for the first time since Meelo was just a baby.

"Are we there yet?" She questioned many times. "It looks like we're there. I know it, this is very familiar! Are we here yet? Are we here yet? Ooh, please tell me we're here!"

Mayalean picked at her nails in a nervous fashion, she hadn't seen Korra in so long, and had been so distracted with her buzzing life in Republic City that sometimes she had neglected to write to the Avatar.

"Yes, Ikki," Tenzin sighs relieved. "As I've been telling you for the last fifteen minutes, we are, finally, here."

Ikki and Jinora rode their air scooters down Oogi's tail, over-excited to finally see Gran-Gran and Korra. Tenzin lifted himself now too, with Meelo perched upon his shoulders, ruthlessly tugging at his ears.

Mayalean sighed, imagining if her family had been royalty or something of the sort, surely then they would be a wild sight.

"Hello Mother," Tenzin greeted Katara. "I can't tell you how happy I am to see you," he almost pleaded, desperation leaking in his very tone. "Please, help me."

Katara just laughed happily, plucking Meelo from her son's shoulders as he bowed. Mayalean had yet to leave Oogi's saddle, too nervous about seeing Korra for the first time in so long.

Helping her, very, pregnant mother up, she inched to the edge, peering over at her family. She looked so much like Pema, from her hair color, to her soft green eyes, it was almost uncanny.

But in the same way she was like Pema, she was also so much like Aang. All those times she had visited her Gran-Gran, she couldn't help but express it so wildly— from her happy-go-lucky personality, to her virtuous will, every world that Mayalean uttered reminded Katara so much of Aang.

"Unhand me strange woman!" Meelo begs, flailing his arms around rapidly, not recognizing his own grandmother.

Tenzin sighs, "that's your grandmother, Meelo," he announces, only for Meelo to push away from her and somersault over her head.

Katara could only smile in awe of the air-bender children around her, her grandchildren. "It's so good to see all of you," she says warmly.
