Solas watched the templars as they filed out of the capital, disappearing down a distant road. Cassandra scowled. "I know what you're thinking. Good riddance."
The barest hint of a smile tugged at the mage's mouth as he shook his head, glancing at the sky. But he did not answer. Varric looked to Jor. "What now, fearless leader?"
"What exactly did we accomplish today?" Jor touched her hand to her forehead and approached a large blue double door, hoping it lead to somewhere with some form of fresh air. The courtyard was stiflingly silent.
"Sowed at least a small amount of doubt in the chantry's claims, chased the templars from the capital of Orlais- I'd say today was a success. We didn't kill anyone, and we have news to bring back to Leliana, don't we?" Varric followed her as Cassandra began a heated, one-sided discussion with Solas.
"Yes. I suppose." Jor rubbed the back of her neck and stepped out of the courtyard. A main road lined with statues lead back towards the distant mountains. "I just don't think-"
A sliver of shadow moved out of the corner of her eye. Jor whipped around to face it, a hand at her dirks, her heart pounding. An elf woman in dull red robes stepped into her path, wringing her hands. She looked stricken but stoic, her sheaf of dark hair was neat and her face was set with pale determination. "Herald of Andraste."
"...Yes?" Jor took a hesitant step back. Varric raised an eyebrow as Cassandra emerged, arguing with Solas. The mage lifted his head idly and caught sight of the woman Jor faced. "Grand Enchanter Fiona."
Cassandra's head shot up and Jor fought a wave of nausea. A grand enchantress? Here? A leader of the rebels that broke from the Circle.
Fiona gave a stiff nod. "Greetings. I had not meant to disturb you."
"I think we're all disturbed in one way or another today," Jor said carefully with an uncertain smile. "You look troubled yourself.""I would be lying if I told you you were wrong," Fiona said quietly. "I hear your Inquisition is in need of magicks. Knowledge. My people and I are willing to help you close the Breach. Permanently."
"Your people. The rebel mages?"
Fiona gave another slight incline of her head. "Yes. The mages will help you. If we could negotiate some kind of alliance-"
"To aid you in your attacks against the Templar Order?" Cassandra scowled. "I think not."
Solas looked at her as if she had made him swallow a particularly sour lemon. "Not everything is about these petty wars. The Breach-"
"Hang on." Jor shook her head, holding up an cautious hand. Solas fell silent and Cassandra was beginning to fume. "I agree that closing the Breach is important. It is necessary even. We can negotiate later, with more information and more representatives from all sides. Like reasonable people, yes?" She raised an eyebrow at the Seeker, who didn't meet her gaze.
Fiona seemed pleased with this assessment. "Thank you, Herald. We can discuss this further in Redcliffe. Come to the Sanctuary, we will speak to you of what we have to offer."
"Of course. I'll go as soon as I'm able. We have a lot of travelling to do, and the Inquisition must confer with its ranks." But Jor gave the enchantress another small smile. "We'd be grateful for your help."
Fiona nodded and turned away, disappearing behind the lines of statuary once more. Varric elbowed Jor in the gut, the nudge bouncing off the quilted underside of her coat. "Well well well, look at you. Making friends already." He grinned. "If you're always this diplomatic, maybe we can just haggle the demons back into the Veil."
"I'm hysterical, Varric, really. Just dying of laughter," Jor said flatly, turning to continue down the cobbled road.
