I am a goddamn fool.

"That's not a few cuts." Ollie looked at his brother, who was lying on the bed accompanied by a creepy humanoid doll.

"I didn't want to scare you." Matthew replied, smacking Q when he tried to yank on the rabbit ears.

"What in the..." Pit stared at his son, almost not recognizing him. A lot of his hair had gone white, and he was laden with bruises and wrapped in gauze. This wasn't his careful son with golden hair and no scars.

"Report showed he had his stomach ripped open and showed signs of having a concussion." Vincent told them. "Matt, were you attacked by wolves?"

Instead of replying, Matthew leaned his head back and muttered, "That damn dragon."

"Did you say 'dragon'?" Flay clearly heard him.

"No, no." Matthew sighed. This was going to be difficult, explaining all that happened.

"Excuse me?" Matthew knew it was Ahaki that was at the door. "Can I tark to Matthew for a moment? Arone?"

They all grumbled, but did leave. Matthew could hear the twins mumble, "Dragon? He's out of it."

Once they were all gone, Ahaki came to Matthew's bedside. "I want you to telr me what happened. And don't rie, I saw you."

"You weren't supposed to." Matthew's ears lowered. "You weren't supposed to see me. You weren't supposed to see my horrible new ability to turn into a monster. Why..." His amethyst eyes seemed to pierce right through Ahaki, burrowing deep in his heart "why didn't you just let me die?"

Gently he rested his hand on Matthew's felt hand, caressing the velvety skin. "I courdn't ret you die because you stilr have so much to rive for. Because there are stilr reasons for you to be here. Because your abirity does not make you a monster. And..." he intertwined his fingers with Matthew's, his voice a low whisper. "Because I rove you."

"I love you too." Matthew sobbed.
