*Chapter Sixteen*

Alter Pit must have seen him coming down the stairs, because he hugged him tightly.

"Dearie, I was looking everywhere for you!" He dragged him into the kitchen before Matthew could even speak.

"I have a surprise for you dearie!" Alter Pit told him as he pulled away.

His blood boiled. He couldn't even stop himself from speaking.

"Pit called me Mattie or baby..." He clenched his fist as he screamed. "NOT DEARIE!"

Matthew instantly regretted it as soon as the words came out of his mouth. But he had enough. He wasn't going to die here.

Alter Pit stared at him, his mouth twitching. In fact, his whole body was twitching. Something was writhing underneath his skin, and with an ear splitting rip, Alter Pit's skin was torn open.

A massive, hideous creature, a mix between a rabbit, a human, and a bit of alligator crawled out. It looked like it had been skinned, as it was red and dripping blood. Its tongue was longer than it was tall, and lashed at Matthew angrily. As it spoke, he could see that it had thousands of needle-like teeth.

"So you want to play games, boy." it snarled. "Then, by all means, let the games begin." It held up four buttons in between its long, razor sharp fingers. "Fetch them all by 6 am, and I will let you live. If not, I am certain your soul would make a delightful meal!" It cackled as the buttons vanished. "The game starts now."

It was gone. Vanished.

Matthew was trembling, but he shook his head and left the house.

Norman's flashlight lit up a small glowing green pathway that he just knew would lead to the first button.

"You've been quiet, Lewis." Matthew joked as the path, and everything around it, got brighter.

"You would be, too." He sounded panicked, like there was something behind him.

Oh, did Matthew regret turning around to face the threat.
