She looked down as she walked towards her class quietly. This was a typical scenario for Mila. She, of course, was that quiet girl in every grade. She always walked alone, ate alone, and sat alone. Weirdly enough, she liked being alone. Nothing to distract her, and nothing to conflict with her peace. Until, one day, a few weeks ago, someone approached her.

It was a boy. He was tall with brown curly hair and dark brown eyes. He usually wore a hoodie and some black basketball shorts. And he was infamously named as the troublemaker of the school.

You might think this is going to be a cliche love story between the quiet, shy girl and the popular troublemaker, but there's a twist.

Mila isn't human.

As a matter of fact, she's Elvin. Closely related to humans, you could say, but not quite. Back at the creation of humans, two groups separated. The average humans we know today and, of course, the group that evolved into elves. The Radiance.

Soon they found a fruit. One single fruit. And one of the elders consumed it. But there was a catch. The spouse of that elder gains abilities at a certain age. Each elf having a different unique ability.

Mila was an Inflicter. She was able to inflict pain on others. She never really used it much, only if she had to. Since she wasn't able to choose who the pain would be inflicted on. The pain would reach anyone nearby her, causing them to crumble in agony for a few minutes. Sometimes the power was fueled by her emotion, causing it to accidentally happen, but most of the time, she was able to hold back cause of learning to control it all these years, of course. But hearing the pain in their voices and knowing that she caused it, hurt Mila more than anyone could imagine.

Now, back to the story.

Mila was surprised when the troublemaker of the school, Trevor, approached her. For two reasons, of course. One, nobody tried talking to her before, and two, it was Trevor. He never talked to any girls like her before.

She was expecting him to ask for her to do his homework or something, but surprisingly that's not what he asked. He asked to be friends. Just normal friends. Nothing weird; it wasn't even a dare. At first, Mila did think it was a dare or a joke, but he sounded so genuine when he asked her like he was apologizing for something horrible he did. And so, she accepted, of course. Not because she wanted to be popular or anything, just because she wanted to see where this unlikely friendship would go.

After that wild encounter, she went to class silently, not speaking a word about it. Now she was on the bus on the way to school, with the situation out of her head. Mila sat quietly watching the trees pass by as her music played in her earbuds, the bus ride was the most calming part of school for her since it was just herself, her music in her own imaginary world.

As the bus passed by a bunch of trees and buildings, she let herself sink into her seat getting comfortable.

Watching the scenery go by, the strange scene played back in her head again making her think all about it again. She sighed looking at her phone skipping the current song before putting it down again and continuing to look out the window, trying to keep an empty mind.

After finally getting home she sat in her room just watching the boring old white ceiling fan spin round and round, sending a breeze of air her way also cooling her down as she stared aimlessly.

'A good quiet afternoon for a good study session.'

She thought to herself before slowly getting up and sitting down at her corner desk, decorated with different stickers and artwork she had collected and made over the years. She took in a breath and grabbed out her notebooks from her school bag and opened then flipping to the paged she needed and grabbing her textbooks from a shelf near her desk. The pages smelled old like any old fashion book would. The pages were crisp and tinted yellow, showing the wear and tear its been through over the years. Mila favored real books over online texts and E-Books.

She played her favorite songs as she studied, humming along softly, writing her notes down smoothly and seamlessly. Mila liked writing on paper, taking notes and all. The feeling of pen on paper just calmed her down a lot, especially after a stressful day at school. It also helped empty her mind of all the things she's worried about, but it was an excellent opportunity for something like Trevor saying hello to her and asking to be friends with could creep into her mind and distract her.

She sighed, resting her head against her hands as she read her notes that she had written already as the scene slowly drifted into her mind again. "Dangit... Can't you just leave me alone.."

Mila placed her pens down and closed her notebook and textbook getting up and laying onto her bed, facing the wall. She didn't know why but it was bugging her.

'I shouldn't be so bothered about this... It was just a social interaction!.. Right?'

Eventually, she fell asleep thinking about this, ending up not eating dinner. Again.
