It had been just over week since Oliver had visited and I had locked the Dursley's out the house. As for the cleaning, we got that done super quickly, they were only locked out for about 30 minutes. I managed to make them think the lock had gotten stuck and Harry and I were trying to fix it so we didn't get into too much trouble.
They only confined us to the bedroom for two days, which to be honest wasn't really a punishment because we didn't have to cook or clean or do anything for them. But now, things were back to how they have been over the entire summer and I was currently cleaning up.
Once I finished, I turned the tap off and could hear hushed shouting from the living room. It could only be Petunia and Vernon because the boys were in bed already. As I dried my hands on the tea towel, I crept closer, trying to hear what they were saying better.
"I just think that it's a bit harsh on her, don't you?" Petunia queried.
"No dear, I don't. She isn't our child but still expects us to fend for her. She should be doing more than what I make her."
"She isn't our child no, but she is my sister's. I can't stand seeing her miserable when she looks so much like her. It just reminds me of how terrible I was to Lily and the fact that I can't ever take that back." At this point, I could hear Petunia sniffing, was she crying?
"Alright, how do you suppose we go about making her happy then?" He scoffed.
"Well for starters, I'll make that cake for tomorrow with her and Harry, you can take Dudley out and I can stay here."
"I know you feel like you have to make it up to your sister, but if we start treating those children like our own, they will never be satisfied with what we give them. And don't forget, they are freaks."
"Vernon, please."
It felt rude to keep listening, so I walked back to the sink and began drying the dishes. Each glass or plate or piece of cutlery I picked up, a new question popped into my brain. Did I really look like my Mum? Were the Dursley's secretly nice? If so, why did they never show it? My aunt really loved her sister?
After drying about 6 dishes, I heard footsteps approaching behind me so I turned my head. It was Petunia. She didn't say anything, she just breathed heavily, taking in all my features before tucking a strand of hair behind my ear and pulling me into a ver unexpected hug. It only lasted about five second but those five seconds were the strangest of my life so far.
"Off to bed now, I can do the rest," her voice was soft, not a trace of command in it.
Before I had the chance to protest, she took the tea towel and began to do the rest. Bewildered, I slowly started walking towards the stairs, not before turning around to bid her goodnight, meekly. I was met with a gentle nod and a small smile.
The mere thought that maybe things would start looking up, maybe I could have a connection with them, maybe I would have a biological family, was enough to make me sleep well that night. I slept like a baby in fact, for the first time in a long time.

Vernon and Dudley started pulling out of the drive, I think they were going to the zoo maybe, wherever it was, Dudley chose it. Aunt Petunia, Harry and I waved to them until they had driven out of sight, and then we went to the kitchen to start prepping the cake.
"No, no put that away," she chuckled as I started to pull out the flour and Harry grabbed the eggs.
"I thought-"
"I bought a cake already, it's being delivered in a few minutes. I really just wanted to spend some time with you both."
"Uh....okay?" Now I was very suspicious.
