_____

You were out on a midnight stroll, the wind drifting past you like paper airplanes cutting through the air, yet more gently. The person lagging behind you was on the verge of sleeping on the stoney sidewalk, but you kept your mind to the stars. Sometimes the wind would whistle in your ear as they groaned, but you kept your legs moving.

There, you reached the place of rest. It was noted by the person by the way your feet halted without you looking around. As if you knew you were there just by the mood of the air released by the scattered trees surrounding you. Maybe you did, who knows.

Whilst turning your heels towards the field, you threw a quick glance behind you and smiled. Rubbing her arms for warmth, she would force her eyelids open every once in a while. You smiled softly and walked back to grab her hand. She sent you a questioning look; you didn't answer it.

Your eyes found their track again, towards the distance and to the horizon, where the rolling hills kissed the deep sky freckled with dots. Behind you, she admired how your eyes sparkled along with the stars like they were mirroring each other. Illuminated by the moonlight, you kind of glowed. It might've been her imagination but it also could've been just how she felt.

The two of you stepped onto the grass, you leading the way to a tree a bit far away. You started to lay on the grass, feeling the cold yet comforting dew of the spades. She didn't follow through, only letting out an inaudible sigh. Though when you closed your eyes she decided getting a bit wet didn't matter as much.

Her back a bit damp now, she rested stiffly against the ground; her hands intertwining themselves, sitting on her stomach. It was your turn to sigh as she looked at you.

It was peaceful, the whole world asleep while you watch the moon slowly chart its path in the sea of the celestial anomalies. "The moon is beautiful isn't it?"

She cocked her head, her eyebrows furrowed a bit as her gaze shifted from you to the sparkling atmosphere. The girl knew it was beautiful, but she tried to search for the deeper meaning of your words.

Maybe, it was the moment rather than the meticulous picture painted and displayed before you two. That just two of you could share this small event that some people take for granted. When others were sleeping, missing out on the star show up above, you had chosen to gift time and presence with just her to witness something you found special. And when you almost dragged her here, you wanted to show her a world she didn't know, where the stars are brighter and everything was quiet, a bit solemn, yet harmonious in the end. Or maybe she was just reading too much into it.

So, to find her answer she looked around. The moon was obviously the highlight of this world, only coming out when its opposite is gone. Streaky fluffs of clustered condensation would try to stop its shining but nevertheless, would fail. No matter what it would catch your eye.

Next, the stars. Like the companions of the moon. Some will drag your attention and let you stop, take a second. Make you remember that the time is fleeting; the next time you free yourself from the loads of habit and routine grounding you and stargaze, it will never be the same as the last. The constellations would have shifted and left you behind.

And last and most important to her, you. Instead of the moon, you were her highlight. The thing her mind would never let go of every time those long nights came around. In fact, it scared her. The hold you had on her shoulder was frightening, even if you never meant to place it there. Still, she found it beautiful. It was story-esque and she hoped there was a happing ending.
