Prologue Part 12: Tenacious Chase!

Yuuto's POV

"Hey, beasty! O-o-o-over here!" Grim shouted. After a few seconds, the monster came out.
"Grrr.... LeaAAAAAAAAAAAAVVEE!!!" The monster then began to chase us again.
"Gah! It's coming!" Grim yelped.
"Over here, beasty!" I shouted at the monster.

"Grr!? There... thief... too. Won't give... Mine... Mine!!!" The monster growled. It was starting to run faster and soon it sent a punch on my way. But, I was faster than him and dodged the punch.
"Pyah! That punch looks like a knockout if it lands!" Grim exclaimed and I nodded.
"Come on little guy, get it as far from the tunnel as possible." I told Grim as he nodded.

"Go away! Go away!!" The monster kept yelling.
"It's pretty far from the tunnel now!" Grim yelled.
"Okay then. Now!!" I shouted.
"Ok, I got this! Let's go, Extra Large Tempest!" Ace shouted. Then a large tornado appeared from his pen. I then nodded at Grim.
"And the Great Grim's Fire Special! Ffgnaaaaaaa!" Grim shouts as he let's out a huge blast of fire.

"Guaaaaah!!?" The monster yelped in surprise and confusion.
"How's this! I can even fan Grim's shoddy flame into an inferno!" Ace chuckled a bit.
"It's not shoddy! Ugh, every word out of your mouth pisses me off!" Grim says, frustrated.
"Calm down Grim. And look! The monster is caught in the fire tornado! Now's our chance!" I yelled out.

Deuce's POV

Once I heard Yuuto's voice, I tried to stay calm.
"Calm down... Take aim... The biggest, heaviest... thing I know..." I took a deep breath and finally yelled out.
"Come forth, cauldron!" And a big cauldron fell and hit the monster.
"Guaaa!?" The monster yelped.
"Got it! Nice work everyone!" Grim beamed.
"Hey, look! The monster looks flat as a pancake just like Ace earlier!" I chuckled at that.

"You don't need to bring that up again! Jeez, today just isn't my day." Ace sighed.
"Well at least that's over. Good job Deuce!" Yuuto complimented. I felt my cheeks heat up for some reason. What's happening to me?
"Ah, it was nothing." I said as I began to scratch the back of my neck. I then cleared my throat.
"Let's go get the magic crystal while that thing can't move."
"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaiiitt!!!!" The monster yelled out as it was struggling to get up.

Yuuto's POV

We went inside the mine and started searching for the crystal. After a while, I saw something shining at one of walls and when I looked into it, there was the crystal!
"Hey guys! I found it!" I shouted to get the boys attention. I then took the crystal.
"Yay! We did it!" Grim beamed but the joy that was just created, was destroyed.

"Hands oooooffffff!!" We heard the monster.
"Crap! That thing is almost free!" Ace yelped.
"Oi, Deuce! Throw some more stuff on it!" Grim told Deuce as he took his pen out again.
"Eeeh, something heavy!? C-Come forth! Cauldron!" Deuce stuttered out as another cauldron hit the monster but it wasn't as effective as last time.
"And, ummm, ummmm, cauldron!?" Another cauldron hit the monster, still not working.
"One more, cauldron!" He launches another one, not working at all.

"Nnnguaaa!!" The monster growled at us.
"Do you have nothing but cauldrons in your repertoire!?" Ace asked, surprised.
"Shut up! I'm at my wits' end here!" Deuce said, loosing his cool. Then Grim let out a blast of fire at the monster. It was more than effective for us to leave.

"We got the magic crystal! Let's skedaddle!"
"Roger!" We didn't waste no time before running out of the mine.
"That. Is... MIIIIIIINNNEE!!!" The monster yelled out at us.

We soon came out of the mine but the monster didn't stop from following us.
"You're kidding!? It knocked off all that stuff and came after us!" Ace shouted, bewildered.

"Uuuh... uuughhh...! Give... it ba...ck!!" The monster growled, coming closer to us.
"Shoot, it's gonna catch up to us!" Deuce groaned.
"Hmm... but it's weaker! Now we might..." I said, looking at them. I soon gave a determined smile.
"Aaaaaah, fine! Let's finish it! Don't let me down Mr. Serious!" I giggled at the nickname that Ace gave Deuce.
"You too!"
"I'll show off my true power!" Grim shouted with confidence. The guys then sent a lot of attacks at the monster while I made sure the crystal was safe.

After the fight was over, the guys were trying to catch their breaths.
"We...did it?" Ace asked in bewilderment.
"Yay! Good job guys!" I congratulated them.
"W-We won... We actually won!" Grim beamed as he jumped around in happiness.
"Hooray!" Me and Deuce cheered.
"We did it!" Ace joined in.
"Victory high five~!" Me, Grim, Ace and Deuce high fived each other.
"Yaaaay!" The guys cheered again.

"Is this "adversity brings people together"?" I then teased them. By that, they snapped out of their 'moment'.
"... Ah. N-no. This is nothing like that!" Deuce stuttered.
"Y-yeah, yeah! Could you stop saying weird things?" Ace said, pouting a bit.
"W-we won thanks to my genius. It's not because we pooled our strength!" Grim said, crossing his arms.

"... I guess making excuses is pretty lame. I hate to admit it but we won thanks to your plan." Ace smiled at me.
"... True. We got the magic crystal because you gave us level headed instructions." Deuce agreed, also smiling at me.
"We can prevent our expulsion this way. Im so relived. " Deuce sighed in relief.
"Hehe~ it's thanks to your teamwork. I'm glad that everyone is alright." I said, smiling at the three of them.
"Yeah, yeah. We're all relieved. And seriously worn-out and battered. Let's go home." Ace huffed.
"I'm starving from using so much magic..." Grim's stomach then began to growl a bit.
"Hm, maybe we can check later if we have something to eat. "I said to Grim, while petting his head.

"Hmm? What's this?" Grim said, noticing something on the ground. I then noticed something on the ground, too. It looks like the crystal we got, but it didn't have any shine. It's color was pitch black.
"Remnants from the monster?" Deuce wondered, seeming to have noticed the crystal too.
"A magic crystal...? But I've never seen a pitch black like coal before." Deuce said. Grim soon began to sniff the crystal.
"Snif, snif... This thing smells really good..." Eh?
"No way!" Ace yelped, looking at Grim with a shocked look.
"Um... Please don't tell me you're..." I didn't even want to say it.
"This has to be candy the monster was hiding! Oooooh, I can't hold back. Time to dig in" Grim cheered.
"Wait! Grim don't!" I tried to stop him but it was too late. Grim ate the whole thing in one bite.

"Uuh!" Grim then froze in shock.
"Hey, you alright!?" Deuce asked Grim.
"Aaah. That's why you don't don't eat things off the ground ~" Ace sighed.
"Hey Grim. You okay there, little guy." I asked, getting worried about him.
"D.... D-d-d-d...... DELICIOUS!!!" Grim exclaimed. I blinked.
"Wha!!?" The guys shouted in shock.
"Huh?" I said, in confusion.
"It's full-bodied but also rich, with an aromatic sweetness that blooms in my mouth... Like a whole field of flowers in my mouth!" Grim explained, while I was still trying to grasp the situation that was happening right now.

"Bleegghhh. Monsters really do have different tastes from us." Ace said, disgusted.
"... I guess so. But more than that... Most people wouldn't even put a mystery object in their mouth without a thought." Deuce commented.
"Monsters are omnivores..." I said silently.
"Gahahahaha! Tasty, tasty!" Grim laughed in delight.
"Don't worry, my stomach isn't weak like yours." Grim said, smirking at us.

"Don't come crawling to me when you get sick later." Ace sighed,as he crouched down and poked Grim's nose. I snapped out of my confusion phase and giggled at the interrection between the two.
"Switching gears, let's get this magic crystal to the headmaster!" Deuce said as we nodded.

Then we went off to go back to Night Raven College. But before I took another step I turned around to look at the place where the pitch black crystal used to be.
"Hmm..." I silently hummed.
"Hey Yuuto! Come on let's go!" Grim then shouted from a distance.
"Ah! I'm coming!" I gave one last glance before catching up with the others.
