Chapter 25
"What about this color? I think it's really cute and it'll make my nails look longer. You know? More delicate and I don't know, what do you think?"
I looked up from the fashion magazine that I had spread out on my lap and turned to Leah who was holding a bottle of lavender nail polish up for me to examine.
"Yeah, that one's so pretty." I replied.
Leah smiled brightly. "Thanks Kait, I'm so glad we got to hang out today, it's really been a while and it really shouldn't ever be like that since we're besties."
I nodded. "I know, I've missed you like crazy, Leah."
It really has been a long time since we hung out; we were both finally hanging out at Leah's house together and we were sitting up in her room having some much needed girl bonding time. I was surprised when Leah called me earlier. I haven't really heard much from her this week up until now and after what happened with Jared at the bakery, I thought he'd tell her right away and she'd officially disown me as a friend. However, I was wrong. She called me up earlier and asked me to please come over, she said that we needed to catch up and she missed me way too much.
After hearing her voice I agreed quickly, because just like any other person, I missed my best friend and I needed to see her pronto.
Now I looked out her window and noticed heavier chunks of snow begin to replace the lighter falling ones.
"Wow, it's really coming down." I noted.
Leah pushed aside her many bottles of nail polish causing them to clank against each other and walked over to her window. "I can't believe it's still snowing like this. I mean, spring is coming up soon and we're still getting these random snow storms?"
"I know, you'd think we'd be done with this by now."
She sighed and ran a hand through her soft blonde curls. "It's still so pretty though, I can't complain too much."
I nodded in agreement; winter was actually my favorite season. I didn't like rainy spring, hot summer, or chilly autumn. I liked pure cold and snow, more like polar bear weather.
Leah turned away from the window and said, "I don't know about you but I'm starving, so how about I get us some snacks?"
I smiled. "That'll be great Leah, thanks."
"I'll be back in a sec." She said as she shuffled out of the room wearing her pink slipper boots that her parents recently bought for her, but caused her to slip and slide all over the place. I kept asking her why she wore them if she was always at the risk of danger when she had them on. She told me that they were too cute to not wear. Her girlyness is now putting her in danger. Sheesh.
I heard my phone buzz from where it sat on Leah's pink and black comforter. I left my place at the window and reach over and grabbed my phone.
It said I had messages from my group chat with Tyler and Liam. It read:
Tyler: So yeah, the team name has to be something not long, but not obvious, you know? Something we could use around the perpetrator.
Liam: Dude, don't you think that you're overthinking it just a bit?
Tyler: This is serious Liam. We have to be professional about this don't we, Kait?
Liam: I'm not saying that we don't have to be serious, I'm just saying that you can't overthink it, right Kait?
I smiled at their bickering. It was cute that they were still thinking this through, and they always turned to me to settle their little disputes. I couldn't begin to explain the happiness that I felt because we were finally getting ourselves back on track with this. I quickly typed in a reply.
