Chapter 13
"Okay, okay. So guess what?" Leah said in a sing-song voice.
"What?" I asked.
"I said guess! You never guess Kait. Come on, guess!" Leah giggled, almost spilling her bottled iced tea onto the scuffed up cafeteria floor.
I set my Sprite onto the wooden table and tapped my index finger against my chin. "Uh, did the principal finally realize that we are the best students that will ever walk the halls of this school, and we'll finally get the special treatment that we deserve?
Leah broke out into another fit of giggles then. "No, but nice try."
I picked up a french fry and swirled it around in ketchup. "Alright, so then what's up?"
"Well, I've got some fantastic news! You know how my parents own that cabin up in the mountains?"
I nodded, hoping that she'd get to the point.
"Well, Mom and Dad said that I can take a few of my friends up there for the weekend!" She smiled wide, like she's just won the lottery.
I wasn't really expecting this news, I was kind of shocked."Oh really? That's sounds great, but what's the occasion?"
"Mom and Dad decided that this can be an early birthday present for me. Since my birthday is coming up next week, they've asked me what I'd like and I told them that this was what I really wanted. They agreed quickly, and said that they trust me and my friends enough, that we don't even need parental supervision."
"Oh, well that's great, Leah. Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. Your parents are so cool for letting you do this." I told her. "So, whose coming?"
Leah took a quick sip of her iced tea and then set it down with a thud. "Well, my parents think that I'm only inviting you, Brooke and Natalie. You like them right? They're super nice and a lot of fun to be around."
I nodded. "Yup, I really like those girls, they're very sweet. But, anyway, what do you mean your parents think that you're only inviting us? Who else are you inviting that your not telling them about?"
A devious smile formed on Leah's lips. "Jared, Tyler, Liam, and Drew."
I looked at her, completely stunned. First of all, I couldn't believe that Leah was actually lying to her parents and secondly, I couldn't believe that she was lying to her parents about whether boys were going to be at the cabin. This was so...unlike her.
"Uh, wow, Leah. I- I don't know if that's such a good idea."
Leah waved her hand at me, like if I was being childish. "Oh, please, Kaitlyn. It'll be way more fun with guys there, than if it was just you me and the girls."
I shrugged. "I suppose."
"See? It's going to be awesome. Just you wait and see." Leah said, with a confident smile.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Jared and Drew walked up and joined our table. Jared came up and gave Leah a quick kiss on the lips and took a seat next to her, while Drew took a seat by me.
Drew and I were on speaking terms again, well sort of, since our argument in homeroom. I mean, he actually acknowledges my presence, talks to me at times, and he sometimes looks at me when I speak to him. So, I suppose that this means we're cool again. Kind of.
Jared slung an arm around Leah's shoulders and turned to her. "So, what's going to be awesome, babe?"
"Oh, I was just telling Kaitlyn about the trip up to the cabin this weekend." She looked over at me and smiled. "It's going to be perfect."
