Chapter 10

"Kaitlyn, how about you stop reading that magazine and go help set up for the outer space party." My boss, Bill, told me as he shoved my feet off of the table they were resting on. I was getting used to him doing that.

I set my glossy magazine down and turned to scowl at him. "Sure, I'll go help with the outer space party, when my break is over."

I propped my feet back up on top of the wooden table and picked up my magazine, ignoring Bill's presence.

"Well, I'm your boss and I'm cutting your break short. Now get up." Bill ordered, his face turning a deep shade of red.

I sighed, got up and flung my magazine back on the table. "Fine,"

"Get to work and cover up those bruises, you look like you've been mugged. We don't need you scaring the children." He remarked, before storming off.

Once he was out of sight, I sat back down and got comfortable. Yeah right, like I was going to let him cut my break short. He must be delusional. Besides, there were only five minutes left of my break. The outer space party can wait.

I had been looking over the' Fabulous New February Looks For You' article when someone cleared their throat, as if to get my attention in front of me.

I looked up, shocked to find Mason standing their, with his hands in his pockets, looking absolutely delicious. I don't know why I was shocked, I mean, he does work here. I guess I was expecting him to be running around somewhere, having a love fest with Victoria.

"Hey," I greeted him, flipping to the next page of the magazine, which presented an article on facials.

"Hey Kait," He said, studying my face. "Rough night?"

"Long story," I replied shortly.

"You're sure that you didn't get into a cat fight or something? I do recognize you as the violent brunette." Mason joked, amusement filling his features.

"I am not violent," I said defensively, setting my magazine down.

I had tried covering up the bruises with a lot of concealer, but the bruises were darker today. So, they were harder to hide. I was getting irritated with everyone asking me what happened to my face. I'm planning on going back to the store and buying more concealer before the group date. I don't need to like I've "Been mugged".

I picked up my Pepsi bottle and uncapped it. "So, what's up?"

He came over to the table and pulled out one of the chairs across from me. He sighed as he sat down, and he began playing with the bands on his wrist.

I sipped some of my Pepsi then set it down. "What's wrong?"

He looked out the window, where you can see that snow was starting to fall. Perfect little snowflakes fell to the ground in a steady rhythm, coating the ground and the buildings. It was so beautiful and mesmerizing that we both gazed out the window silently for a while.

Finally, Mason turned to me and sighed miserably again. "It's Victoria."

I shifted in my seat, trying not to feel the sharp pain in my chest when he spoke her name. "What's wrong? Is she okay?"

Mason tugged on one of the bands on his wrist. I noticed that it said 'Rock Hard'. "No, she's alright. She's fine. It's just that, I think she's mad at me and I have no idea why?"

He looked up at me then, his blue eyes clouded. "I don't know what I did to make her so upset."

"Well, her birthday is in two months, so she's not mad about you forgetting that." I informed him.
