Chapter 31:

 Teddy

"Let me see that," Luke grabbed the paper from my hand and scanned my answer. It was a Tuesday afternoon and we were at the music room having our second to the last tutorial session.

I know I said I didn't want a tutor. But now I desperately do. Roxette insisted that I grab this opportunity if I really want to pass my Math finals so I gave in. Luke and I have been studying for three days right now and tomorrow will be our last session because my math test is on Thursday.

"Well.... You almost got it right but you need to put the negative sign here," Luke pointed his pencil at my answer.

I sighed, "Can I do this number again?" I snatched the paper from him and started doing the question again, not bothering to wait for his reply.

Luke and I have been working on the same topic over and over again. I can already feel his frustration at me. I know he has better things to do and yet I got him stuck here doing something that I know he's already good at.

I watched Luke in the corner of my eye, he was wearing a blue flannel and his trademark black skinny jeans with holes at the knees, he was biting on his pencil and he was shaking his leg and was also staring at the door.

Great, he can't wait to leave!

So I took a deep breath and put my pencil on the desk and faced Luke, "I think I get it now," I lied.

Luke snapped out of his trance, faced me and undone his leg, "Really? Let me see your paper again," he tried to snatch the paper from my desk and I stopped him by slamming my hand on top of the paper.

"I really do, you don't have to check it," I pretended to look at my wristwatch, "Oh my god, look at the time! Time for your, uhmmm, band rehearsal!" I blurted out.

Luke chuckled and leaned back, "I have no band rehearsal, Teddy. Our mums don't allow us to have band rehearsals if it's finals week,"

Oh.

"What about a snack? I know you're hungry too," I told him, helping him escape this misery.gh

"I'm fine, why are you in a hurry to leave? We don't finish until 5:30, remember?" he made a show by pointing at the music room's wall clock, it says, 3:24.

I sighed and leaned on my chair with defeat, "I know you regret taking me under your wing and tutoring me and all that and I am sorry for that, I know I can never learn this even if it kills me, so now I am setting you free," I explained, regretting the last part.

You know that feeling where you're talking to someone cool and you just want to talk to them and get to know them but then when you start talking you feel like you're annoying that person? Well, that's how I feel right now.

Luke was biting his lip, obviously holding back the urge to laugh. "What are you talking about? You know, you're really hilarious Teddy, you can do stand-up comedy or maybe write a humor blog or something, now let's get serious, we've got a lot of learning to do," he replied, scooting closer to me and my unfinished worksheet.

I covered the worksheet with my hand, "No, I'm being serious Luke. I've had a lot of math tutors and none of them can work their magic on me. I've tried so hard to like math and to learn math but it didn't work out. I don't see why you should be any different,"

Luke was silent for a moment, staring at my worksheet, "You know what we need?"

I looked at him quizzically.

Luke pushed back his chair, stood up and grab his black jacket and blue beanie, walked up to me and offered his hand, "We need a break,"
