Chapter 21:

“Okay, if you divide this by three, the answer will be 74”

KC nodded and wrote down 74 next to number 10.

“Is Maths your only homework?” I asked KC as she double checked the answers from 1 to 9.

“Yeah. Thanks so much Teddy.” KC smiled at me and closed her maths notebook.

I helped her closed some of her books and putting them into her purple backpack.

“So we’ll see each other again if you have trouble with any of your homeworks, okay?”  I told her and we hugged each other goodbye.

It was Thursday afternoon and classes just let out earlier. KC and I were at the library with other students who are cramming for a test tomorrow. KC is a 7th grader and is one of the students I tutor. I sometimes do it for free but some of my tutees parents’ wants to pay me so I kinda make money while also reviewing with them.

Now, it’s time to do my homework. I got my Economics book and my English book and my Maths book. The Economics assignment was all about the history of money and all I have to do were write a timeline for it. My Maths assignment was all about tangents, cosine and secants. Then here comes English. It was still the essay.

I was up all night thinking what I want to become. I came up with forest rangers, royalty or a wife. And none of them seems interesting (or what I really want to be).

I tapped my pencil into the sheet of paper in front of me and stared ahead. I was staring at a painting of an old woman with a book open on her lap.

Then I looked to my right and saw a distraught guy scratching his head while bent over a huge book. Probably trying to catch up with whatever lesson he missed.

I looked to my left and saw the huge grandfather clock ticking. It was already 4:45 and I’m still here stuck with my blank English assignment.

I also have to cram for the Music class project because yesterday Mr. De Leon just announced that the performance will happen next Wednesday.

I have lots of things to do but yet I always seem to lose myself to things and end up having nothing.

I always have to chase time because I always forget the important things to do. I keep being late and always end up blaming myself too.

Wait, did I just say that????

I picked up my pencil and started writing what just popped into my mind.

Then I smiled to myself.

I just solved all of my problems.

Luke’s POV:

“What are you gonna do for the project?”

I was in the boys’ locker room with only in my towel on and was looking for a shirt when a voice said that behind me.

At first, I thought of not turning around, thinking that person might be talking to somebody else.

“Hey Luke, I’m talking to you!” the voice repeated. And this time I turned around. I’m sure now that person is talking to me now.

I turned around and saw Roland. Roland, the guy who was about to be Teddy’s partner.

“Hi Roland” I waved and smiled at him. Roland was wearing denim shorts and t-shirt. Now I kinda feel awkward just wearing a towel on.

“Hey. What are you gonna do for the project?” he reiterated. He was wearing his backpack and his arms were crossed at his chest. His fluffy hair was going in different directions and he was wearing his tortoise shell glasses. His trademark.

I contemplated whether to tell him the truth that we still don’t have the other song for the mash up or telling him that we are already done and ready to blow their minds off. “We’re done.” Well, I guess the second option won.

“Really? What songs did you use?” he asked. He is getting creepier and creepier by the minute. What made it even disturbing is that we are the only ones left in the locker room and I’m just wearing a towel.

“You’ll have to watch our performance to know.” I smiled smugly. This guy is not going to scare me away.

“Oh? I’ll have you know Josie and I planned something amazing for this project.” He boasted.

Why is he telling me all this? Does he not know that I don’t give a damn in what he and Josie did for this music project? It’s just a project for Pete’s sake! “Good to know” then I turned around to face my locker to look for a shirt.

“Remember Mr. De Leon’s catch?”

Mr. De Leon’s catch? Oh yeah I remember, he just talked about it yesterday. He said whoever impresses three of the guests judges will get an A for the entire semester and can skip music classes altogether and will get two free gift certificates at the Mad Cow.

“Yeah I remember.”

“I will win that for Josie.” Roland said haughtily then stormed out of the locker room, finally leaving me.

That got me hot. How does he know that they’re gonna win the project? Is he not afraid that we’re gonna blow him off the stage when Teddy and I perform?

Okay, I will have to work extra hard for this project if I want to beat this Roland and take Teddy to dinner.

Wait, did I just say that?

Okay, okay. The certificates are the only reason I’m going to work extra hard. And to beat Roland of course.

I’ll show him.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE 20K I AM THIS HAPPY KID DANCING RANDOMLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET!! If you are still reading up to this point then I hope I made you all kinds of happy and gooey inside. I lurveeeee you all.
