Chapter 20:

“Wow, since when did you start singing while doing homework?” a voice echoed through the room.

I suddenly stopped singing and woke up from my trance and stared at the open book in front of me. It was my Economics book. I looked up and saw Roxette’s smirk from the distance.

“What are you talking about?” I exclaimed, closing the book entirely. I will just have to get back to it later.

Roxette walked up to my place in the couch in a coffee shop inside school.

“You look happy” Roxette commented with a smile.

“It’s because I am” I simply replied. In the past few days, I’ve been doing things with extra enthusiasm. Like, singing in the shower with feelings, humming my way to my locker, raising my hand up like a rocket and even offering help to other people. I feel like superwoman.

“You finally saved up enough money for your phone?” Roxette smiled as she tucked her legs under her on the couch across from me.

“No.  Luke thought up a song for our project and I can already feel an A coming!” I smiled. Ever since we went to Duke and Darry’s, (which was just last Monday and it’s already a Wednesday) I know this isn’t the first partner thing I’ve done but I felt this should be a perfect assignment. I felt even more energized to make this a great project. I even started listening to this album I just randomly found in a rack. And I instantly fell in love with it!

“Really? Are you not talking about Luke?” Roxette smiled slyly and wiggled her eyebrows.

I gasped a little. “What? What about Luke?”

“I’m not implying anything here but are you sure you’re excited for the project and the songs or is it because of Luke?”

“Because of Luke? Why would I get excited over him? It’s just an assignment and you know how much I want an A for this! And I’m going to get an A because of him!” I cried.

The minute I said that I realized how horrible and desperate that sounds. I mean, the way I said it, it’s like I’m using Luke to get a high grade.

I facepalmed myself, “I’m sorry it shouldn’t have come out that way.”

To my surprise, Roxette just laughed. “Teddy, you have nothing to be sorry for! I was just testing you.”

I was startled to what Roxette said. “Testing me? For what?”

“I was trying to catch you and have you admit that you like being with Luke but instead you got defensive and contemptuous” then she chortled so loud she had to slap her thighs.

I shook my head. I should have known Roxette would come up with these kinds of stuff.

“Does that mean I get an A for your test?” I asked with a sober expression.

Luke’s POV

“So how do you like it in D minor?” Calum asked as he sat down on my bed.

“It’s alright.” I replied, looking for my guitar pick.

“Found a new song for the mash up?” Calum asked, still strumming his guitar.

I told Calum about the partner project I’m doing with Teddy and he was bombarding me with suggestions.

“Not yet. I’m waiting for a suggestion from -”

“What about 25 Minutes by Michael Learns to Rock?” Calum interrupted.

“Teddy. I’m waiting a suggestion from Teddy.” I finished my sentence, emphasizing Teddy’s name.

Calum frowned for a moment and smiled. “I heard she’s been going to Duke and Darry’s without you.”

I was taken aback with Calum’s reply. “She goes to Duke and Darry’s alone?” I was surprised because I never thought she'd be into those kind of stuff. I still don't know her yet and probably she's into music like I do.

Calum nodded, “Yeah, I saw her come in. I was about to go say hi to her but she was already  inside, listening to something.”

“Did you see the album she was listening to?” I only asked out of curiosity. She was probably listening to the song I told her.

Calum shrugged, “I’m no superhuman to see distant things so clearly.”

“But did you see her buy it?” I’m getting weirder and creepier every time I ask Calum about Teddy.

“I don’t know! I didn’t stay there for too long to check everyone’s purchases!” Calum raised his hands to show that he surrenders and that he wouldn’t be entertaining any of my questions anymore.

I sniggered, “Okay, let’s go back to strumming.”

Teddy’s POV:

“Get one whole sheet of paper and write 150 words on the one thing you would want to become.” Our English teacher announced. Mrs. Kramer just finished talking about a story about roses and how it is used as feelings figuratively.

I looked inside my bag and took one sheet of paper.

“It could be an inanimate object, a product of your imagination or somebody else. Be creative. Creativity is 40%.” She added.

“I’m going to be a runway model since I’ve always wanted to be one” the girl behind me whispered to her seatmate.

“That’s so boring. Why don’t you become a pyrokinetic or something like that?” the boy hissed at the girl who wants to be a runway model.

Then they started arguing about models, pyrokinetics and their uncreativeness.

Hmmm, what should I write? I don’t want to put anything boring like being a doctor, well, no offense to doctors, but this essay sounds like it’s asking for interesting stuff like if I want to become a unicorn or anything mythological or something, not something like a gradeschool assignment asking you what you want to be when you grow up.

“By the way, you guys can bring this home and make it more interesting.” Mrs. Kramer added.

I smiled to myself. I still have 14 hours till I get the best idea ever.

And to also have the best music project ever.

Because I love you all too much to keep you waiting. So here it is!
