Dad resigned.
"I resigned, this job is taking so much of my time. The travelling and all but I've got another good news."
"Why did you resign?" I had asked. I know how much dad loves this job. He used to travel even when I begged him not to. He loved his colleagues. He loved working with aunty Ifeoma. Why then did he resign?
"Did you just hear what I said, Princess?" He had asked and I shook my head.
"He said the job is taking so much of his time." Dindu said.
"I've gotten another job. I sent my CV to another company last month and I got the job today."
"How are you sure you wouldn't be traveling in this new company?" I asked him. "Why is this company better?"
"It's bigger. The pay is higher and I actually have a better position here. I'm not required to travel, it isn't in the job description. C'mon, you both don't seem happy for me?"
Dindu shrugged; "Congrats." He said.
I mumbled a congrats too before dad stepped out.
I turned to go to my room when Dindu stopped me.
"He resigned because...."
"Because what?" I asked him.
"Because it's against the company policy to have an above colleagues relationship between workers. Every relationship must be casual but things are changing."
"Your mum should have resigned instead." I shot at him.
"Why?!"
"She rarely goes to work anymore. She takes multiple leaves in weeks."
"Why haven't she been fired? Because they can't do without her. She has been granted a three month leave already because she's sick."
"She's not sick." I told him.
"She's not? What are you trying to say? She's pretending?"
"She's pregnant."
"She's not."
"She is, it'd be better if we all come to term with it."
"But the doctor said she can't have a child again after that abortion."
"Well, she's pregnant," I say then paused. "For my dad." I added then walked into my room.
I didn't know how it made me feel. I felt different shades of emotions but then, I wouldn't conclude because it hasn't been confirmed. I'm just suspecting it.
A few days later, the morning we resumed school, Dindu and I were in dad's car as he drove to our school when he broke the news to us.
"Ifeoma is pregnant, for me." Dad said, without facing any of us. His attention was fully on the road.
"It's no news." I said immediately but Dindu waited for minutes before he replied.
"So man, you banged my mum and got her pregnant? Isn't that supposed to be fornication or something?"
Just then, dad pulled in front of our school gate.
"Both of you should get down from my car."
And we did.

"Thanks so much, Simi." Jade said as she handed my maths assignment book back to me and I put it in my bag. She got up from beside me and straightened her skirt with her hands.
