"Excuse me?" The girl in front of me yelled. "Oh you already did! You pathetic excuse of a human being."
"Sssh Simi." Her dad cooled her down. "Where is your mum?"
"Inside." I mumbled.
"I'm Mr. Samuel Oluwatofunmi. Her colleague. Inform her that I'm here."
"She has been expecting you so come in." I said to him.
Mr Samuel walked into the sitting room slowly while Simi bent down and pretended to unbunckle her sandals.
"Look, Simi.." i started.
I was going to tell her to stop pretending rather, she could just turn back and go home but she charged at me.
"I don't like to hear my name from the lips of animals."
When she meant animals, she was referring to Kelly and I.
If she didn't have a comeback, she wasn't Simi. She had more, I-
"You know, I don't know why someone would have so much pride for stupidity." She sighed as she flung the sandals off her leg.
"Idiot." I muttered.
"Exactly what your mum called you when you were born." She hissed and went inside.
I stood there expressionless.
I closed the door and followed suite.
I just came back home. After school, I went to play football with Kelly and the rest of my friends. Mum welcomed me with the news that she was going to exchange me for a daughter. I was heartbroken when she said it was for only one month.
See fuck up oh.
Just exactly what I needed. An adult male figure. Not like I didn't like my mum. I fuckin' love her. She was so young when she got pregnant for me. My dad didn't acknowledge the pregnancy and he asked her to abort it but she didn't. She raised me alone. Alone. I love her. I'm a teenager. I need a male figure as a guardian in my life. There are many things I try to tell her but she just doesn't understand then it results to exchange of words. I felt I needed a break. I can manage one month but I'm sure gonna miss her.
However, something just changed. I realized I didn't need just any male figure. I realized that when I noticed whose father I'm gonna be spending a month with...
Princess Simisola Oluwatofunmi!!
My classmate and rival.
Simi is a nutcase. A popular quiet savage. Complex personality.
"Good evening to you too, Mr Samuel." My mum greeted as she dropped the tray of good on the dining table. We all were seated on the dining table.
"Good evening ma." Simi greeted mum. They exchange pleasantries as mum dished the food.
"So Simisola meet Chidindu and Dindu meet Simi." My mum said after she chewed and swallowed her first spoon of jollof rice.
"From what I saw outside, these two already knew each other before now." Mr Samuel pointed out.
"Do the introduction then." Mom said to me.
"She's Simi, I'm Dindu. We share a class." I sighed.
"Just that?" My mum asked.
I looked at Simi for help but she had her eyes glued to her food.
"You guys are friends right?" My mum asked again. "Makes things easier." She sighed.
Nope. I do not want this exchange anymore cause I suspect that a certain girl is gonna make me motherless. Simi shot daggers at my mom as soon as she mentioned the word 'friends.'
"Excuse me, Ifeoma.." she started.
"Aunty..." Her dad interrupted quickly.
I shook my head.
Mannerless brat.
"Excuse me, Aunty. I make friends with only human beings. I don't even call Jadé's cute puppy my friend talk more of this.." she cut her self off. "We aren't friends."
"What's your problem, Simi?" I asked.
"My problem has nothing to do with your plastic brain. My problem is why two adults would decide to exchange their kids for a month."
Her dad and my mum glared at both of us.
"You need a filter for your mouth." I snapped.
"Your broke ass can't afford a filter or I'd have asked you to get one for me and please, don't go about using words that you can't spell." She whined.
My eyes were red in anger, "You, bitch." I sweared.
"Your girlfriend's middle name?" She raised an eyebrow up.
"Both of you stop right now." My mum yelled.
"What's wrong with both of you? Would you keep quiet?" Her dad asked.
"I'd have gladly done that if it weren't coming from the lips of people who are considering exchanging their kids." Simi snapped.
I know Simi is savage but she's being extra this evening. I know I welcomed her with something close to an insult but she can just take a chill pill and move on. I would have said that to her but I didn't want to upset my mum. If I were Simi, I would be damn happy that I'm getting a woman like her.
"Mr Samuel, let's make it three months, I need enough time to teach this girl manners." My mom suggested. Her lips didn't twitch.
Simi stomped her foot on the ground. Her dad had already started to nod.
"Aunty, thanks for the food and Dad, you can sleep over, I know my way back home." With that, she left us all with the same expression.
Surprise!!
