"I like you." She blurted out.

I was confused for a moment.

   "How?" I asked. She looked at me in confusion.

"It's okay if you don't feel the same."

"I meant, we never even discussed before so I didn't expect this." I stammered.

   "So I take it that you don't like me back." She said.

     "Let's be friends." I proposed.

   She shook her head and stared at me for a while.

"I don't want friendship, Daniel. I want relationship."

   I pinched the bridge of my nose. This must be the most ridiculous situation I've ever been in. No girl have ever asked me out. Even if they give hints that they like me, asking me out? Naa.

   "I'm waiting." She said.

"Let's go out on Saturday." I proposed. Her eyes lit in Joy. She had this cute one sided dimple. How can God make someone as perfect as this? But..

  "But I don't really know you that well." I said.

     "We're going out to know each other, right?"

I nodded.

   "I'm not really the kind of guy to lead you on when I know it won't end up the way you expect. I like Samantha." I confessed.

Her expression dropped.

    "Samantha? My friend?" She asked in awe.

I nodded. "But..We can still go out, hang out, have fun and all." I said.

    "Wait, you're trying to friend zone me?" She asked. "Go out, hang out, have fun and all." She mimicked me.

     I was going to talk when...

"When people go out, have fun and all, they catch feelings or one of them catches feeling. It would have been great if you aren't trying to use me to get Samantha especially when you know I already have feelings for you so fuck you." She said, obviously hurt.

  I looked around and I was glad everyone was minding their business. I didn't mean to hurt her but I can't displease myself because of pity. I know what I want.

  "Maddie, it's not like that." I tried to explain.

    "No, it's okay. I'm a fool. We don't really know each other and I just showed up and said I like you. Such crazy." She said.

   I sat down and urged her to sit too. She frowned.

   "Naa, nevermind, I'm okay."

"Maddie, sit please." I said again.

   She flared up. "You don't care if I stand or sit. You don't have to do this."

    "Okay, Maddison. I can't love you out of pity. You're not my kind of girl. Samantha is. I declined politely but you like to act up. Are you still in for Saturday?"

  "What the fuck, Daniel? Did I seem so desperate when I came at first? If so, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to look desperate. After speaking to me like that, you expect me to be in for Saturday? Politely, you say. So polite that you had to tell me that you don't like me but you like my friend. Such sweet." She said and ended it with a hiss.

   "Okay then, bye." I shrugged.

"One of the reasons why girls don't tell boys about their feelings is fear of rejection. How you gifted me first-hand. Thanks so much. I knew you were an ass hole but not this much. Chop knuckle." She folded her fist and brought it forward. "I pray your crush will reject you and choose your best friend and she won't even offer you a hangout offer. Have a nice day, friendddd." She said and walked away.

  I stood up and looked at her as she walked away. I know she's hurt but I can't imagine how hurt she is. What did I say wrong? 'Okay, maybe I shouldn't have told her I liked Samantha?' I argued with my mind.

  I walked to the cafeteria in search of my friends. They were already seated munching and murdering the food.

  "Guy, how far?" Kelly asked me as I sat down.

   "Where is the pork meat abeg?" I asked.

   "Wetin dey do you? Person slap you? This one wey you dey frown face." Alex asked as he handed me my share of the meat.

   "Can you imagine? That girl asked me out." I said.

  "So you don dey chop her work like this?" Ola asked.

    "If you no like am, run am for me oh. The girl package die." Alex said.

    "Commot for road Alex make I see person, wetin you tell am?" Kelly asked.

  "You know me nau. I no fit pretend say I like am. Na Samantha I like."

  As soon as I said it, Alex banged his hand on the table attracting stares from other people.

   "See fuck up ooh." Ola said, not minding them.

    Kelly laughed.

"The day wey you fit lick your elbow with your tongue, that day Samantha go reason you. I mean, she go notice you." He said.

   "Mad oh." Alex laughed at his failed attempt to lick his elbow.

    "Una just they mad. Wetin I for tell the girl?"

"With all due respect, E ti ya Werey ni." Ola laughed.

   After a lot of thinking, I came to a conclusion that nothing is funny here.

  "Atleast, you for chop her work for sometime na. O baby has back and front. She is well loaded. Her daddy has money. O baby is fine. She's intelligent too. Ahn! You're still waiting for that one that her boobs is as flat as tennis table." Kelly said.

  "Abi rolling board." Ola suggested.

I munched on my pork meat and I ignored them as they said whatever they wanted to say and laughed their life away.

   "For real, run the girl for me." Kelly said. "She's sexy."

    I hissed. "No be only run. I tell you say the girl they vex for me."

  "Why won't she be angry? You shouldn't have told her that you liked her friend."

   The deed is already done. The moment I remembered my food in Musa's house, they rang the bell.

   Long story short, Simi's dad didn't come as he promised. The remaining periods after break went well. I called Mr. Samuel but he didn't pick up. He texted me afterwards that he can't make it. I already used my transport money to buy pork meat. Fada lawd!! I had to leave some books at school so that I could force the food flask in my bag after I realized I'd be walking home with my friends.

   Only Kelly knew about the exchange stuff so when they asked why I was walking home, I made up a very beautiful believable lie that justified the situation. However, you'd be so stupid to think you can walk from school to my house without dislocating a leg. Simi's friend became our saving grace. Though he gave me the money in a mocking way, it was very much appreciated.

  "What if we use this money for another pork meat and just walk home? We're four, it won't be boring." Ola said.

"Guy nau!! Have sense please." Kelly told him.

    "Don't forget Ola's house isn't very far again, that's why he's talking like that." Alex said.

"Guy!!" Kelly laughed.

   "Oponu."
