Chapter 8 The Tailgate Spinner runs into trouble

The sea was foggy, the Tailgate Spinner was riding the waves. Greyham was sitting in his cabin talking to Jacques when a sailor burst through the door "Pirates have been spotted along the coast Captain, shall we prepare for battle?" 

"Keep an eye out," said Jacques "I haven't Skyler or Sappy today. I fear they are far away." 

Greyham's face was grim.  Not far from where they were sailing a black flag with a skull and cross bones could be seen. Captain Davy Jones stood abroad on his ship  The Sea wanderer looking through the spyglass and seeing the British flag flying up on the Tailgate Spinner. Greyham gave the order and shouted "KEEP A LOOKOUT MEN, MAIN THE CANNONS...." 

Davy Jones kept his course steady preparing to battle and a sly grin played over his face as his crew aiming for the Tailgate Spinner. 

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Meanwhile in Neverland~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sappy was still wading in the creek unaware of the pirates watching her. She stepped backwards bumping into Peter who had woken up from his nap. He had a mischievous smile on his face. "I'll bet that water feels good on your feet," he said. Sappy smiled playfully as he chased her through as he chased her through the air. 

Skyler squinted his eyes as the lost boys played blindman's bluff on the hill above them. Slightly the second oldest approached him "Hey Skyler? why aren't you joining the game?" he asked "you really should play with us." 

"Because I should be back on the ship," said Skyler "but no, Sappy wants to explore Neverland and be a weirdo." 

"Maybe Sappy is searching for adventure," said Slightly smiling mischievously "you never know." 

"Yeah and maybe she'll learn to defend herself with Pan around," said Binky. 

Sappy and Peter came back from playing in the creek a pang of jealousy ran through Skyler's emotions. What was Peter challenging him to do? He walked up to the group of boys that surrounded Peter and Sappy. "What do you say boys? Where shall we go next?" 

"The old Jolly Roger," called Cubby. 

"Mermaid lagoon," Sappy interjected. 

"Skull Rock," called Slightly. 

"Let's go ask Tiger lily for advice," called Nibs. 

There were so many shouts and suggestions that Peter held his hand up and called "Skyler what do you want to do?" he asked. "you pick." 

"The old Jolly Roger," said Skyler "that's where I want to go." 

"Ok it is the old Jolly Roger," called Peter "let the adventures begin."

A fierce battle had broken out between the Tailgater Spinner and The Sea wanderer. Cannons fired in the fog. The water was cold and breezy , gunshots blazed as men swung from ropes. Davy Jones was eager for battle, he was a sneaky cruel man and his ally was the famous Captain James Hook.

Greyham was shouting orders as the Tailgate Spinner became overrun by pirates and buccaneers. Enormous waves crashed the side of the ships nearly tipping them over. 

Jacques was in the yards firing at pirates with his gun. Grappling hooks from the Sea Wanderer  sprang out of nowhere making the two ships collide. Captain Greyham drew his sword to prepare himself to fight Davy Jones.

Skyler and Sappy followed Peter Pan and the lost boys to the shoreline. A large abandoned pirate ship appeared. They were unaware of the Captain Hook and his crew sneaking behind them. Peter flew overhead keeping his eyes open for the enemy. The lost boys started climbing the ship with Skyler leading them. Sappy stayed on the beach with Peter landing next to her. 

"Aren't you going to follow them?" asked Peter. "are you worried about something?" 

"I'd rather stay on the beach," said Sappy "there's something about that ship, it's creeping me out." 

Peter scanned the waters and his eyes fell on the ship's surface. The lost boys and Skyler were nowhere to be seen. Skyler and the boys were exploring the main deck, Cubby was as terrified as a puppy. "Hey Skyler, I'm going back to the beach, this is creepy," said Cubby. 

"Go ahead," said Skyler "but I'm exploring this beauty of a ship." 

Cubby turned around and started climbing down, and ran to Peter who was guarding Sappy. "Cubby, what are you doing?" asked Peter "Get back up there and..." 

"I think the old Jolly Roger is haunted," said Cubby "I'm worried about Skyler and the other boys."

The Tailgate Spinner was overrun. Captain Greyham and Davy Jones were locked in a swordfight. The  Tailgate Spinner's crew had the advantage as the battle raged on. The pirates started to retreat and Captain Greyham's cry of victory was heard . 

Jacques Plunkett was amazed that the Tailgate Spinner had survived the battle. However rain started to fall and a brutal storm was on the way. Captain Greyham looked at the sky,, the dark clouds had failed to cover up one thing. The second star to the right was twinkling above them and it meant only one thing, that they were headed  for Skyler and Sappy.
