September 1939.

Before the Second World War starts, fourteen-year-old Sybil Vaughn is sent away on one of the first transports out of the city. Despite the apparent importance of it all, Sybil believes she'll be back home in a week and doesn't even say goodbye to her mum.

On arrival in the country, Sybil is billeted with the Goodwin's, a couple in search of some help on their family farm. With Sybil not really fitting the bill, she has to prove herself to both of them.

Along the way, she happens to find out a lot more about herself, too.
