how to survive 8th grade

chapter one

*First day of 8th grade!*

The summer is over. It's a new day and a new grade. I'm no longer Maddie Sarah Horan the 7th grader, I am now Maddie Sarah Horan, the 8th grader! I was really excited for this year. It was seven a.m. I went to my closet and picked out a cute outfit for today. I wore black jeans, a white t-shirt, a grey, and a pair of black and white converse. I walked over towards the are of the closet where there hung all of my beanies. I picked out a black one that i had gotten for my birthday before. I looked in the mirro and smiled. I then got my bag that had new books and schol supplies. For some odd reason, i really liked shopping for school supplies. I grabbed my bag, my new cell phone, and my grey hoodie. I didn't put on the hoodie, because it was a little hot, but i brought it incase the weather was deciding to be bipolar today. It was now seven thirty-five. I went downstairs to see my mom, Mike, and my dad in the kitchen eating waffles,"oh waffles! My fav...wow i hang out with Adrienne too much." I said. They all laughed. I grabbed myself some waffles and sat next to my dad. We sat and talked for a little bit as we ate our waffles,"My word, it's five minutes before eight, you guys better get going." Said my mom feeding Jonah some milk from a bottle,"C'mon we gotta go, love you guys." Said Mike grabbing his bag and a water bottle. I also grabbed one,"Love you guys too have a nice day!" Said both of my parents as we walked out the door. We ran to Mike's mustang and we were on our way to school.

We arrive at the school. My brother stops at our usual drop off. I grab my bag and water bottle and get out of the car. I walk over to the parking lot and see Jordynn, Adrienne, and Alivia. I ran to them and hugged them. I noticed there was a new girl,"Hey who's this?" I asked pointing at a blonde girl with straight hair. Everyone laughed,"What?" I asked," maddie, i'm Nikki!" Said Nikki laughing,"Oh, my gosh, you didn't! You killed your beautiful curls!" I said still in shock,"Doesn't it look cool though?" Asked Nikki. I looked at her and nodded. We all laughed, "I so thought you were a new girl." I said laughing,"No, Jordynn and Adrienne thought that too." Said Nikki still laughing. After a few more minutes of talking we went inside and we all had to go to Ms. Lanecaster's class. We all walked to her class. We sat our usual table,"Remember last year, how we met?" Asked Jordynn,"Yeah, i was hiding behind my binder." I said,"Like this." I said putting my binder in front of my face,"He just gets hotter doesn't he." Said Alivia staring at Alan. We all looked at him. Alan wasn't that good looking now that he's older, i don't know how she likes him, but she does. I looked around for Spencer and spotted him surrounded by all of Alan's friends laughing. He looks at me and smiles. He takes out his phone, does something, then looks at me. I felt a buzz in my pocket, i took out my phone and saw that i had a text from Spencer.

Hey!

Texted Spencer

Hey!!! How was your summer?

I texted. Spencer went to this camp over the summer, but we still kept in contact the old fashion way. Writing to each other.

Good, you?

We stopped texting after Ms. Lanecaster walked into the room. She went to the podium and wrote on the board welcome new 8th graders,"Hey guys, or should i say 8th graders?" She said the she paused as we all made loud noise. We all settled down,"So this year, you are to set a good example to the 7th graders as the 8th graders from last year did, have a great year and that is all." Said Ms. Lanecaster then we all walked to our next class. Spencer went with a couple of his friends, and i went with my friends.

As we walked down the hallway, we talked about our summer. Then out of no where someone runs into me! We both fell to the ground,"I'm so sorry." Said familiar voice. I look up and saw the one person that i hadn't seen in a long time. Shawn.

We looked at each other,"Hey Shawn." I said,"Hey." He said sadly,"what are you doing here at Clearview?" I asked,"Well, my dad wanted me to go to this school, because he read how good the classes were here, he thought it would be good for me, since i'm a straight A student." Said Shawn normal now. He got up and helped me up,"Cool, well...welcome to Clearview." I said. Shawn looks at me and smiles,"thanks." He said awkwardly. We stand there awkwardly,"okay, listen i'm really sorry about what i did to you." I said to him,"it's fine, can we please be friends?" Asked Shawn,"Of course." I said then he hugged me,"listen i gotta get to class, but i'll talk to you latter?" Said Shawn,"Yeah, see ya." I said waving goodbye to him,"Who was that?" Asked Nikki. They knew about shawn, but they never saw him,"That was Shawn, as in Mendes." I said with wide eyes,"Dang he's hot." Said Jordynn,"Yeah, but i really like Spencer." I said. Then we walked to our next hour.

*Gym*

The day was going by really fast, which was pretty weird, because i just couldn't wait to talk to Shawn. I haven't seen him in soo long, and i just wanted to hang out with him and ask him how his summer was. Alivia, Adrienne and i were sitting by each other on the bleachers. Spencer, Garrett, and Alan were coming towards us laughing,"Hey madds." Said Spencer hugging me then kisses me,"Hey bae, what's up?" I asked,"Nothing much, i was actually wondering if you wanted to hang out at the park later?" Asked Spencer,"Actually, i was hoping to hang out with a friend later." I said,"Are you and Nikki gonna watch a movie at her house?" Asked Spencer,"No, not Nikki." I said,"Alivia?Adrienne?Jordynn?" Asked Spencer,"No...um...actually, i pumped into Shawn today." I said. Spencer was speachless. He grabs my arm and pulls me away from the group we were surrounded in,"What do you me you pumped into Shawn?" Asked Spencer,"I did just pump into Shawn, we're just friends, that's all we're ever gonna be." I said,"I don't think you should hang out with him, you might do something stupid." Said Spencer,"Your not gonna change my mind, i'm gonna hang out with Shawn." I said then angrily walked back to the group and talked with them. I looked over at Spencer, who was furious. He walked away and talked with some other guys. I felt kind of bad, but i just wanted to hang out with Shawn, i wasn't gonna be stupid and cheat on him. We were just friends.
