tattooed heart ( mike )

MIKE WATCHED IN AWE as y/n slept so peacefully in his bed, softly snoring while her lips were slightly open. he truly loved everything about y/n for her love allowed the blood to rush through his veins. she was the reason he wanted to wake up in the morning and she was the girl he'd stay up all night for with no hesitation. no one could be compared to y/n, not even eleven.

 warm tears trickled gently down his pink cheeks as these thoughts floated across his mind without care. 'i can't believe she's leaving me today.' he said in his head. 

due to circumstances, y/n was moving from hawkins all the way to dallas. this was hard for the young couple, especially considering they've been together for almost two years. y/n had told her parents she was having a final sleepover with max and el, but the truth was that she was spending her last night in the small town under the sheets of micheal wheeler. 

"can't sleep huh?" y/n softly croaked, waking up from her uneasy slumber.

"how can i?" he sighed. "every minute with you is my last now."

y/n turned from her side and onto her back, staring at the ceiling as silence crept over the two.  she closed her eyes, her mind going blank as she began to breathe deeply. she didn't want to cry, it was unnecessary. there was no point of sobbing over spilled milk.  if anything she should be happy she gets to spend her last day in hawkins with mike.

her eyes shot back open before she asked, "what time is it?"

"midnight."

she turned her head over to face mike. "rooftop one last time?"

mike grinned greatly. "i'd love that."

the two sat comfortably on the roof of the wheeler home-- y/n's head rested on mike's shoulder as he held her hand tightly. there was no dialogue between the two for their love and energy was enough to communicate emotions. winds softly brushed against their skin but they kept each other warm. in short, the night was perfect but it would not last forever.

"i can't believe you're leaving," mike mumbled. 

y/n remained silent as she thought of how to respond. she knew that this was the end for her and mike, but they both did not want to speak it into existence. they wanted to hold on for forever.

but forever is for dreamers.

"mike," y/n softly said. "you don't have to wait for me forever, you know that? you are allowed to move on, to find somebody else when i'm not here. if we're meant to be, the universe will put us back together."

"w-what are you trying to say?" mike croaked.

"i'm saying that i know we aren't going to make it, and it breaks my heart to even say this. but as long as i'm the named on your tattooed heart, nothing else matters."

mike blinked back his tears before saying, "i-i love you y/n. i always will."

"and i will always love you too mike."
