Damn the time gap irl is almost as wide as in-universe. We left off around November, so skip to like, may. OWL exam season babyyy!

Emile awoke to the sound of quill scratching parchment. He rolled over to see Logan submerged in the composition of his transfiguration essay, which draped over the neighboring bed for almost two meters. "Please tell me," Emile grunted, sitting up in bed as he reached for his glasses, "that you woke up early to finish that and you haven't stayed up all night."

As Logan looked up to face him, the shadows under his eyes gave the answer for him. "Logan you're going to fall asleep in the middle of the exam if you don't get some rest. Isn't this the second all-nighter in a row?"

"This is due today," Logan gestured to his newly finished essay, the ink already drying.

"And you've just finished rewriting it for the third time," said Emile. "Your health is just as important for this test as your knowledge."

"I know, you're right," Logan yawned. He looked out the window at the breaking dawn, "Breakfast should be going on by now. I need a coffee."

"What you need, sir, is a nap." Emile corrected, but said no more as Logan dressed. They left their dormitory in tired silence as the other boys in their dormitory awoke one at a time.

"You must admit that relative to the importance of our upcoming exams, I'm handling myself rather well." Logan said, downing his first mug full of black coffee and already reaching to pour himself another.

"I'll say," Virgil cut in as he and Patton passed the Ravenclaw table. "I legitimately thought you'd lose your mind by now. But you found your way down to breakfast alright." He pat Logan on the shoulder with a yawn.

"What are you two doing during break?" Patton asked them.

"Logan's going to catch up on some sl-"

"Care of Magical Creatures." Logan cut Emile off.

"You're going to regret ignoring my advice one day." Said Emile, glaring.

"I'm sorry Em, but I'm severely behind in Professor Hagrid's class,"

"I swear I'll never get used to hearing 'professor Hagrid' as long as I live..." Virgil commented quietly.

Logan went on, "I doubt any sleep I manage to get will be very restful until I've reviewed the last flobberworm lesson. I missed that day."

"Logan," Patton began thoughtfully, "I'm pretty good at Care of Magical Creatures... If I helped you out would you make sure you slept tonight?"

"Your concern is appreciated Patton, but I couldn't deprive you of your studies in subjects where you need it just to help me."

"oh, I'm going anyway," said Patton firmly. "I like the hippogriff in the back. But will you sleep if I help you?"

"um-" there was a slight plea in the look Patton gave him. "Yes. Thank you, Patton."

"Right. I might practice flying or something," Virgil mumbled as Patton gave a beam, and they both left for the Hufflepuff table.

******************
Since study break came directly after the Ravenclaws' and Hufflepuffs' Care of Magical Creatures lesson, Logan and Patton needed only to find each other after class and then stay late.

"You didn't miss out on much," said Patton, voice lowered as Hagrid walked back toward his cabin. Patton picked up a flobberworm from one of the small crates, letting it rest, oozing on his index finger. "They eat mainly lettuce, and get on well when left to their own devices."
