Clutching onto her sweaty palms, Mina's shoe stepped onto your right foot. Her weight toppled over, and your chests hit as you whispered panic talk to each other. "I won't go next, I won't go next-" she repeated.

All of our classmates were being called up, one by one in alphabetical order. The numbers of people that hadn't participated were dropping like flies, Mr. Aizawa was ruthless. Mina and I were apart of that small group.

Our given assignment was to toss a ball, but with all your strength, so that it went as far as possible. And as easy as it sounds, the suffocating combo of public humiliation and also the grading system made it hard.

Nobody wanted to end up last, not in this test or the many others. According to our teacher, the student that ends up in last place will be expelled. Removed from all of the data files, and turned into a mere, high school memory.

The towering boy in front of us had already gone, and had scored among the highest. You were pretty sure that he was creating bad assumptions about Mina and you in his head, as he had to listen to your annoying cries.

"You're gonna have to go eventually.." you mumbled, stepping back slightly and accidentally hitting another student. However, when you peeked to see who it was, their back wasn't even turned towards you.

"I mean, yeah- but I don't want to go next!" Mina continued to yelp, awkwardly bending her knees as she whimpered lowly. "You can go next, or that chick over there! She looks so ready, see?" Mina rolled her shoulder.

"I'm pretty sure she already went." you tried not to giggle, as you spied who Mina was referring to. While you weren't sure about their name, their high ponytail definitely made them someone to remember in the future.

The girl's arms were crossed, and her expression confident as she basked underneath a canopy shade. She had also scored among the highest, you believed in the top three. She looked kind, or at least you hoped she was.

But after several more minutes of dreading and whining, it was your turn- then Mina's. And after that went everyone else, the rest of the class that included the talented and the mediocre. Yet, you were stuck in the middle.

However, one out of that talented percent was that boy. That boy who was seated in front of you in home room, and even had his cubby locker right next to yours. The one with an intimidating aura, and spread legs.

"But what's so special about him?" you wondered, knocking the side of your sweaty temple in an attempt to shake him out from your thoughts. You silently prayed that what you had caught a glimpse of was fake.

To come across someone with the same quirk was extremely rare, almost never happening. You held onto that thought, clinging dearly as if your life depended on it. But deep down, you knew that you couldn't lie to yourself.

"Bakugo" was his name, you had overheard the strict teacher mention it one or two times. His quirk was the same as yours, but it's worse than it sounds. That only made him competition, a competition you couldn't win.

You glared down at your sweaty palms, pathetic sparks lighting up with a bit of focus. They popped like firecrackers, shining the warm colors of crimson red and bright orange onto your glowing skin.

Still, you were drawn. Maybe it was the thrill, or maybe you just wanted to see how big of a difference there was between you two. That one, single fact about Bakugo, made him all the more enchanting.

And now it was your chance, a high jump over a wide-ranged field of mud. You could use your quirk, catch his attention, and start up a conversation. Hopefully, just hopefully he was friendly to classmate strangers.

After catching your breath from the last test, you bent your knees as if you were lining up for a marathon. This was it, the leap that could either break or make you. The jump forward that also could push you far back.

With the blink of an eye, you were flying. Soaring into the air and using your hands as rockets, accelerators. All you could see was blue, the turquoise sky accompanied by fluffy clouds. That, and the finish line.

The splitting strands of your hair went flying, waltzing throughout the manmade breeze. You cheered loudly and watched the faces of your shocked classmates, but none of them were as shocked as Bakugo's.

Or maybe it wasn't real shock, and instead just the look of despair. The look of fear, or the glare of boiling rage. You couldn't read his complicated feelings, or the syncing lips and quiet words that he muttered to himself.

"Woohooo!" you squealed, bending your knees and preparing for the fall. You hit the soft ground, flakey pebbles of dust and shattered rocks comforting you. Mina came rushing to the side, her hand already extended out.

"3.41 seconds." Mr. Aizawa announced, clicking the counter device that he was using to grade us. Your time was fast, but disappointing- at least to you. A second slower than Bakugo's, which only ticked you off.

"That's awesome, (Y/N)!" Mina was clapping loudly, but you wondered why it sounded like an echo. A background voice in a movie scene, an irrelevant character that was only put there to bother you even more.

"Thanks!" but you happily smiled and accepted your high grade, because anything was better than last place. You gladly took Mina's hand, wandering off into the line and patiently waiting for all of the test results.

Despite being hidden behind the builds of your classmates, his eyes never left yours. Bakugo's glare, it was glued on. His eyebrows were slightly furrowed, and his fists tightly clenched. He even kicked over a rock.

You glanced away, hoping that he would forget about it. But he never did, and never once did he take his eyes off you. Not for the rest of school, anyways.
