But it happened, it happened so quickly that you never noticed. You never noticed that big gap growing larger, larger and larger until you couldn't even tell if there was a gap anymore. It had turned into two separate leagues.
His sparks were stronger and more vibrant than yours, and his attacks were more thought and planned out. But you both had the same quirk, the exact same abilities. "So what separates us?" you thought, reaching to the ceiling.
You flipped over, curling your toes and bending into a ball. And as you looked out of the spotless glass, placing imaginary bets on which raindrop would cross the finish line first, you bit down on your lower lip in doubt.
It hurt to peek up at the full moon, maybe because it was so bright. Or maybe it was just because you had been sulking in the dark. Goosebumps arose from underneath the hair on your naked forearms, increasing in number.
You listened to the heavy drops of pouring rain, loudly flowing water spurting out of metal pipes. There were miniature waterfalls spilling off every sloping canopy, splashing against the concrete balcony and making puddles.
One could see the visible reflection of a bird's nest, the straying straws that fell with every jitter and shake. Roosting, baby chicks, and their hardworking parents. Just the thought made you smile, enough to flutter your heart.
Curling your fingers and clenching them around the rows of rolls on your stomach, you tried to shut out the loud growling noises. Shutting your eyes and turning around in bed, you eventually ended up staring at the ceiling.
By now you had moved into the dorms, it had been a few months since you started attending this prestigious school. Mina was just down the hall, and she always had the best snacks, yet you continued to mumble "Hungry.."
"So hungry." you had made the mistake of eating a light breakfast and dinner, so now you were facing the consequences. Your vision was splitting, and your eyes drying as you gazed aimlessly at the posters on the wall.
The dorm system had only been implemented because of Bakugo, not like that was a surprise. "It's for the safety of the students" the council preached, and you guessed that it was for a better school life overall.
All of these thoughts were driving you wild, the lonesome midnights filled with self doubt and contemplations. But in all honestly, you just wanted some food. Though, your body wouldn't dare to move.
Your hand skated down to your thigh, and your blunt nails began to pick at every speckled blackhead and stretch mark. Finally gathering the courage, you wrapped yourself within the blankets and fell out of bed.
"Uughh.." you groaned, trying not to touch your lip against the cold, wooden floorboards. The delicate tips of your fingers grazed against the fluffy rug, swirling around the polyester fabric. "I've made up my mind."
"I think-" you attempted to kick off the blankets, flailing your feet and wishing that your toenails were sharper. Its tight grip on your body was nearly suffocating, yet the comfort it gave was so warm and loving.
You stood up with your back hunched, slowly trudging over to your dorm door. Unlocking the tab and twisting the metallic knob, the instant smell of sweat and bleach then wrecked havoc on your sensitive nostrils.
The clock was stretching past midnight, and you could even hear the ticks in your head. Your feet shuffled in their indoor slippers, as you peeked in both directions. "All clear." you giggled and smirked to yourself.
As you skipped quietly down the stairwell, the soles of your oversized sandals clacking against the cement, you began to think about all of the sweet treats in the fridge. Waiting for you, just crying to be eaten.
Underneath the heavy layers of cushions, you were shaking- shivering. Your cracking, lower lips trembled as the seconds past, and your teeth chattered loudly as if you forced out in the cold, powder snow.
The pouring rain hid the stomping of your feet, and the stuttering words that you whispered to yourself. "Yes!" you cheered for yourself, as you took your last trudge off the final step of the towering stairwell.
Shadows from the windows reached out across the floor, blocking the moon's blue hues with their design. Like tall, gothic gates, they caught onto your skin and followed your walking body all the way to the kitchen.
You yanked open the handlebar of the fridge, and the automatic lights resembled eyes from heaven. They illuminated every delicious meal, every frozen dessert and sweetened tea. If you looked closely, there were sparkles.
Taking out a small packet of dip, you then ruffled a chip bag and tore the small hatch open. Majority of it was filled with air, making you frown as you looked down inside of the greasy, silver-looking plastic.
You bent your knees and leaned against the glazed countertops, which created red indents atop your skin. As you chewed loudly without a care in the world, your heart was instantly dropped when you met the unexpected.
The pouring rain was deafened by your crunching, shattered corn chips swimming down your dehydrated throat. You instantly ducked behind the counters, hitting your head against a cabinet drawer.
Crawling out from the shadows, you let the savory taste sit in your mouth as you tried to control your breathing. It was Bakugo, sulking on the wooden porch and letting the dirty water drench his pale hair.
His posture was sullen and his face brooding, with clenched fists that looked ready to punch someone right in the gut. Pinching the ripped opening of your chip bag, you scurried back to your room.
You never looked back, and like a dog with their tail tucked between their legs- you instantly slammed your dorm door. Now you were stuck with a bag of chips, and no appetite to continue eating them.
So, after storing them away in a safe container to last until morning, you brushed your dirtied teeth and jumped back into your comfortable bed. However, the secret encounter had only worsened your thoughts.
