You took a deep breath, fixing the heavy straps of your backpack. They dug into your shoulders like knives, burrowing and creating indentation marks on your skin. Even after becoming short of breath, you still continued to trudge one foot forward.
Up the towering, cement stairwell and down the crowded hall, you were making sharp turns left and right. The spacious corridors of the prestigious school felt so welcoming, almost like they were gladly inviting you in with their open arms.
The high walls were made of spotless glass, bullet and villain proof. Despite their shaded tints and safety precautions, nothing stopped the morning sun from shining in. You could feel the intense heat glistening against your forehead.
Wiping the mixture of sweat and product off your cheeks with a single swipe of an arm, you unconsciously bit down on your chapped, lower lip. Checking the given time from a watch on your wrist, you instantly began to scurry.
"Oh, shoot!" you thought to yourself, the clacking of your mandatory school pumps pounding against the symmetrical tiles. They were louder than ever before, now echoing off the window walls and bouncing back against your earlobes.
"Only five minutes left." you repeated to yourself, constantly sneaking peeks towards the racing time. Shoving your overheating phone back into your skirt pocket, you scouted out the area and the stairs, hoping nobody was there.
And once it was clear, you began to run- dashing towards every door in hopes that one read your homeroom class. You grinned to yourself, the current of the indoor breeze whisking against your skin and through the splitting ends of your hair.
"Heey! Wait for me, will ya?!" but once you heard those words, your feet froze. They anchored into the floor, your toes curling and clutching as you caught your exhausted breath. "You there, chick with the pretty hair!" their voice was uniquely loud.
"Huh?" you turned around, mumbling to yourself, only to get tackled by a heavy weight. The stranger ran as fast as lightning, their bubblegum pink hair tickling beneath your chin. A grunt was stolen from your lips, erupting out of your throat.
"My baad." their hands were hung over your shoulders, gripping on for dear life in hopes that their feet wouldn't trip. You just looked down with an awkward stare, furrowed eyebrows as your mind tried to process the sudden situation.
They glared back up at you, with yellow eyes that seemed to glow. Their irises were black, and the stranger even had curling horns that poked out from their short hair. "Well, what are you waiting for? C'mon, c'mon!" she took you by the hand.
You had no idea who she was, or even if she shared the same schedule as you. Who her teacher was, her name- her quirk. But you couldn't say a thing, couldn't disagree or bring yourself to tug away from her surprisingly, tight handle.
"I didn't even catch your name!" you loudly yelled over the panting of your synchronized breaths, now regretting your choice to skip over middle school sports. Your entire body was frozen, just following after the leader ahead.
"The name's Mina- Mina Ashido!" she giggled so carefree, even though we were already late for first period. Until now, your hand was limp, but then you held on too. You happily clutched onto her pink skin, gulping down a batch of saliva.
"I'm (Y/N)." you quietly greeted, looking down at the glossy floor and spying every fallen dust bunny. The unnoticeable imperfections and small cracks in the placed tiles, even the specks of soil that got lost in the minor crevices.
And then you zoned out, your mouth slightly hanging ajar. Your field of view became blurry, and the symmetrical lines of the freshly mopped floor slowly began to fade away. They doubled and tripled, until you were no longer sure of the original placing.
"Hey, (Y/N)! (Y/N)-" Mina yelled into your ear, hurling you back to reality. "Wake up, sleepyhead. This is your classroom, right?" you rapidly fluttered your eyelashes, until everything cleared up once more. Now, things weren't so blurry.
The length of the door never seemed to end, not until it hit the ceiling. The words "1-A" were drawn in crimson red paint, so blatant and blaring that anyone from afar could see. It took a moment and a recheck of your schedule for you to realize.
"Yeah, yeah, this is it!" you nodded your head, laughing. Letting go of Mina's hand, your fingers slipped away from each other and distanced. "How'd you know?" you stopped to ask, before deciding to stumble into the crowded classroom.
"Just a lucky guess! I knew that all the cuties would be in 1-A, cuz I am too." she giggled into your ear, standing on her very tippy toes. Spying into the classroom window, her yellow eyes sparkled with glee as she grabbed ahold of the doorknob.
"Uugh, don't tell me we're late.." you groaned, rubbing the back of your head and scrunching a small area of your styled hair. "I woke up thirty minutes before my alarm to get ready." you chuckled, laughing about your poor situation.
But just like before, when your back was turned, you were suddenly dragged away. Mina took a tight hold of your wrist, opening the unlocked door and trudging in. You could hear her chuckles in your ear, as the heavy hunk of metal shut behind you.
It was like stepping into a classroom full of primary school kids, they were all running around and screaming. Slamming cubies and flying paper airplanes, even the banging of fallen water bottles. Your teacher wasn't there to discipline them, either.
The blaring noises rang your ears like banging drums, the constant pounding rocking and hurting your brain. Blasting air conditioning instantly froze up your hairy arms, arising goosebumps forming atop your closing pores.
Hopping over plastic chairs and sliding off wooden desks, you wondered if this was a room filled of high schoolers or energetic toddlers. Well, at least you weren't late- or the last to arrive.
..Right?
