I stood with my friends, my forehead resting on Stiles' shoulder. All of my friends were nervous for the PSATs but I was here just exhausted. Ghost, yes. Tired, yes. Impossible, no. I could get tired enough if I slipped into a pattern, and my pattern was sleeping like a normal human, so my body got used to it again, meaning I could get sleep deprived, which I currently was.
"Why are you leaning on Stiles?" The boy in question had an arm around my waist to keep me up as I rest my eyes, trying to get some form of sleep, any that I could.
"Cause he's the right height..." I muttered as he leaned his back against the lockers.
"For what?" Malia continued to ask questions, so I just tapped Stiles' stomach with the back of my hand so he would explain it.
"She didn't get much sleep last night."
"I thought cause she's a ghost she didn't need any sleep."
"So did we, but turns out she fell into a routine and now actually sleeps, but she didn't get enough last night, so she's sleeping now."
"On you?"
"I'm the right height that she can lean against and sleep."
"Right." Malia sounded sceptical but still went with it.
As we entered the room to take our tests, we did thumb prints, took pencils and handed in our phones. I lay my head in my arms on my desk, staring to the side of the room, offering a small smile to the person beside me.
"It's Saturday..." I muttered, my brother looking at me curiously as I spoke. "I should be asleep..."
"You may now, open your test booklets, and begin." There was something weird about this guy. He just gave off a weird vibe, you know?
About five minutes in, we all heard a thud, each one of us turning around and finding this girl draped across the floor, soon pushing herself up as Miss Martin went over to check if she was okay."Sydney, are you alright?" Lydia's mom helped her up.
"I'm okay, I just got kind of dizzy."
"Sydney, how long have you had this?" I peeked around our teacher and looked over to the dark haired teenager, trying to cop a look at her hand. Her skin had dark web-like veins. I creased my eyebrows, a little confused.
"I don't know."
"Miss Martin, do I need to stop the test?"
"No, um, it's fine." Sydney was sat back down and she shared a look with me. I sent her a nod, silently asking if she was okay. She nodded, offering me a thankful smile as she rubbed her wrist . I slowly nodded in understanding. It wasn't long until Miss Martin left the room. After about a minute or so, we heard her yelling in the corridor, causing the majority of us to leave the exam room and enter the hallway in curiosity. "Back to your seats, now." Scott and Stiles shared a look just as I did with the girls. What was going on...?
Natalie, Lydia's mom, kept us by the door as a group of people in yellow hazmat suits walked through the doors and the corridor. I went up to Stiles, lightly tugging on his sleeve.
"What's going on...?" He just shrugged, shaking his head. Clearly he didn't know either. I looked over to Scott, he shook his head too and I sighed, biting my lip. "They're from the CDC...seriously...?"
Malia, Kira, Stiles and I all stayed in the classroom, sat on a few desks and discussing the situation.
"Bet they're thinking it's smallpox." Stiles commented, soon earning an additional comment from our examiner, the guy who was overseeing our PSATs.
"Not likely. Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1979." We all turned to look at him. He was a creepy little man. "We've only managed to completely eradicate two virus' in history. The other was Rinderpest, it killed cows." Stiles and I shared a look. I whispered to him.
"Why does he know so much about diseases?" Stiles tilted his head curiously before shrugging and shaking his head.
"No idea, (N/n). Bit weird though, isn't it?" I nodded, the two of us looking back to disease man. "So we should be comforted by that, right?" Stiles asked him, Kira and Malia sharing a look.
"Unless it's something worse."
"Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine and optimism." I spat sarcastically, Kira smiled. Stiles hid a chuckle, and Malia just looked at me curiously, still not fully grasping the concept of sarcasm just yet. We went back to our private conversation.
"Whatever it is, they're taking it pretty seriously." I nodded in agreement with Malia's statement. "There's a lot of cars and trucks out there." She went quiet for a split second. "Your dad's with them." I noticed Stiles kept scratching himself.
"I should probably call him." He went to get his phone, flipping through the envelopes.
"Don't bother. They would have shut off any access to all outside communication by now." Creepy man shrugged. "No cell service, no WiFi. No one starting a panic." Us girls shared a look.
"Anyone else find him a little creepy, or is it just me?" The pair shook their head, confirming that they thought the same.
After a while, Miss Martin came back into the classroom, motioning for me to come with her. I shared a look with my friends before going to her.
"Scott's been in the bathroom a while, could you check on him? He isn't answering." I nodded and she lead me over to the toilets he had gone it. It was the locker room. Once she had walked away, I tried the door, soon realising it was locked. I focused before attempting to phase through it. It worked. I was in the locker room and Scott was no where to be seen, but I could hear him whimpering to himself.
"Scott? Are you okay? You've been in here a while?" I wandered more into the room, rounding the lockers and finding him sat on the floor and leaning against them. "Scott? What's wrong?" I knelt beside him and his eyes met mine. They flashed red. I took a deep breath. "Can you control it?" He shook his head and I bit my lip. "I'm gonna get the others, I'll be right back." He nodded and I hurried to the door, unlocking it. I looked down the corridor and saw Malia and the others. I flapped my hand, motioning for them to come over here. Kira lightly tugged on Malia's hand and pulled her in my direction, Stiles and Mr Yukimura following.
"What's going on?"
I led them through the room and pointed to Scott, who's eyes kept flashing red. Malia apparently had no control over her claws either, and Kira had become static.
"You guys have to stay out of sight, we have to quarantine you...from the quarantine..." I nodded in agreement as my hands started to feel cold. I stuffed them into my hoodie pockets, also hiding them in my sleeves a little.
"Yeah, but where? What if they get violent? Like on a full moon." Kira mentioned and I nodded, agreeing.
"We shouldn't stay in here. Not in the locker room."
