it was (y/n)'s first day of her last year attending aoba johsai high school and she felt like shit. her hair was crazy, which meant she probably had to straighten it or brush really well, and since school prohibited makeup she couldn't hide the oh-so-obvious dark circles the were beneath her eyes.

today was going to be fine though, even though clubs didn't officially start until next week didn't mean she couldn't practice volleyball in the park. (y/n) is set up to be the team captain this year, although she doesn't usually like commitment, volleyball is an exception to her.

(y/n) got her lazy ass out of bed and waddled to the bathroom as quick as she could because of how cold the tile floor got overnight. she went over her mental checklist: daily shit- check- brush hair and teeth- soon to be done- food- needs to be higher up on the checklist.

she yawned and did her best to flatten her (h/c). (y/n) decided to put it into a ponytail instead of wearing it down because it was so much simpler. while her best friend, akemi, might complain about (y/n)'s simplistic style, (y/n) loved it. akemi was always more outgoing. she had her first boyfriend first, wore makeup to school once, and is pretty popular. the only reason (y/n) was friends with her is because they both attended the same summer camp when they were younger. whereas akemi is always busy, (y/n) is just planning on focusing on volleyball in the hopes to get a volleyball scholarship.

after contemplating on wearing trousers or a skirt with her uniform -she chose trousers because she didn't want to shave her legs- (y/n) walked downstairs to eat breakfast. her mom left her some rice balls and eggs. she could have added some snacks for the first day at least, (y/n) thought.

(y/n) looked at the time, " shit, i'm going to be late,"

shoving the food into her bag, she ran out the front door. this year was going to be good, she thought. she entered her new class, 3-b, and to her surprise was ten minutes early. she set down her bag next to her desk and pulled out a book. it was one of her favorites, (f/b). (y/n) didn't get to enjoy the first chapter of the book though, as she was interrupted by a bunch of squealing.

of course (y/n) knew who had entered the room as soon as the squealing started. oikawa, tooru. he was the boys volleyball team captain. (y/n) had been to a few of his games to observe, but to be honest she never actually talked to the guy. she doubted he even knew she existed. that was fine by her, she did not want to befriend him and then get scowled at by his fangirls.

(y/n) followed the loud party with her (e/c) eyes. please don't sit near me, please, please, please don't. her prayers were miraculously answered as the setter sat across the room from her. (y/n) sighed in relief as the bell rung in her ears. two miracles at once, no having to deal with oikawa next to her and no squealing fangirls in the class.

the day went by pretty quickly or maybe it was just (y/n)'s daydreaming that made it seem that way. she had a game plan that she made up during math class, she was going to run home, change, grab her volleyball, and practice in the park. she'll leave a note for her parents to know where she is, of course.

the final bell rang, and (y/n) was suddenly a track runner. she rushed out and headed home. she tripped a little bit on the way because of her phone going off, but (y/n) could just check it when she gets home. (y/n) entered the door to her air-conditioned house and checked her phone. the text was from akemi. (y/n) remembered then, she had planned to go to the mall with akemi for back-to-school shopping. (y/n) opened the text and blinked in confusion.

aᴋᴇᴍɪ <3: heyy, imma have to cancel:( srry. ttyl tho

akemi was canceling? that is amazing! (y/n) typed back a basic "ok" and sprinted to her room to get dressed.
