THE TELL
"OKAY, REMIND me what movie I'm getting again?" Cameron asked Stiles over the phone. She waved and gave a friendly smile to the worker installing a new light who had looked over at the sound of her voice.
"Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," Stiles told her.
"Right." Cameron walked deeper into the video store toward the Sci-Fi section. "Remind me again why you're making me watch Star Wars."
"Because neither you or Scott have watched it, and you're my girlfriend now so you have to watch it with me or I'll be sad," Stiles explained.
Cameron scoffed amusedly. "Oh, yeah? And if I don't?"
"I'll deprive you of kisses," Stiles said simply.
"Eh, I'll live."
Stiles scoffed. "Wow. You think you know someone."
Cameron smiled, pulling the requested movie off the shelf. "Don't worry, babe. I got the movie."
There was silence on the other end.
"Stiles? You there?"
"Sorry," Stiles choked out. "Babe?"
Cameron's eyes widened. She hadn't even realized she said it. "S-sorry. It just slipped out. I-I don't have to call you that if you don't want. I-I can just stick to Stiles. You know, your actual name."
"Calm down, Cam." Stiles chuckled. "I like it, but only if I can say it too."
Cameron smiled, calming down. "I'd like that."
"All right. See you in a few," Stiles paused, "babe."
Cameron rolled her eyes, but butterflies were fluttering furiously in her stomach. "Bye, dork."
She hung up before Stiles could whine about her goodbye. She turned around, tucking the movie under her arm and heading toward the front desk.
As she walked through the store a voice called out, "Can somebody help me find The Notebook?"
Cameron rolled her eyes, recognizing the voice. "Have you even tried looking yourself?"
Jackson's eyes snapped to where the voice came from, spotting Cameron walking down an aisle one away from the register. "Look, I'm not in the mood for your bitchiness tonight," he said. "Do you know if anyone is even here?"
"There was a guy fixing the light over... there..." Cameron furrowed her brows and dropped the hand she was using to point, noticing the guy was gone and the light was a little more broken than earlier.
Cameron set her disc on top of a rack of movies, moving down the aisle toward where the man had been. She noticed his shoes peeking out from behind an aisle. "It looks like he fainted," she said, but then she rounded the corner and gasped. "Oh, my God. Call the police."
Jackson rolled his eyes, beginning to walk over to the blond. "Stop being overdramatic."
But then Jackson saw what she was talking about. He backed up frantically, knocking down the ladder behind him as well as knocking the light from its place. This caused half of the store to begin flickering in and out of darkness.
"Great going, genius," Cameron hissed.
She noticed the scared look on his face— a lot more dramatic than when he'd seen the body. Then she heard it: growling. She turned to see what Jackson was looking at and she froze.
It was the alpha.
Jackson thought quicker than she did, pulling her with him as he ducked behind a row of movies. Both of them were breathing heavily, knowing that the few racks of movies weren't enough to save them.
