"An eleven year old boy has been taken to the hospital and is reported to be fatally injured this afternoon. Authorities are suspecting the parents to be part of the cause to this as they are now being arrested and taken to court," the female reporter had informed, shifting her microphone to a couple of witnesses.
"As nextdoor neighbors, it's normal to hear noise from other homes. But this time, it was nothing like we've ever heard before," the older woman spoke into the camera as she shivered.
"Screaming and yelling. Rustling and banging. That's all we heard and then suddenly, it became silent. We didn't think anything of it, I mean I guess it's normal to scold your children...but we definitely weren't expecting this, so we called the cops," the older man spoke after his wife, intertwining their hands as the reporter listened carefully and appointed her microphone back to her mouth.
Police cars and ambulance trucks invaded the scene with their loud sirens. The road had been blocked off, as the forensics teams were looking for anything that can trace back to the parents of the child as proof.
"Thank you for your commentary. The eleven year old boy, who goes by the name of-"
"Dude, what the hell are you watching?" Jaemin, placing a hand on his racing heart, quickly paused the TV and turned his head around to his room mate that had just arrived back into their shared apartment.
"Jesus christ, Renjun! You scared the shit out of me," Jaemin groaned in annoyance and the boy with blue hair chuckled.
"Sorry not sorry," Renjun responded, eyeing the paused television screen. "This was like eleven years ago. Why are you watching this now?"
Renjun was known to be the 'investigator' of the two and that's what Jaemin couldn't stand about the older sometimes. Renjun won't back down until you answer his questions with an answer that satisfies him.
Don't get Jaemin wrong, he loves the older. Renjun and him had been best friends ever since the younger moved back to Korea, which was four years ago. Renjun is very openly obeservative and while Jaemin was the same way in certain aspects, he was more discreet with it.
The two were inseparable as Jaemin was laid back and sassy and Renjun was short tempered and sarcastic. Together, they were the most unstoppable duo.
Jaemin didn't realize he zoned out until Renjun came up to him, puckering his lips jokingly. He shoved Renjun to the side who fell over laughing hysterically.
"Gross, don't do that! Your boyfriend wouldn't like that one bit," Jaemin exclaimed, changing the channel on the TV and shutting it off.
"It was a joke, you cranky sourpuss. Besides, Yangyang would have done the same if we're being honest," Renjun stated and stood up from the fluffy carpet.
Renjun is right. Yangyang, the older's boyfriend, would indeed have done the same thing. His boyfriend was very friendly and social, always ready to take risks whatever chance he gets. It's one of the things that Renjun admires most about the younger, his carefree personality.
Jaemin rolled his eyes and Renjun plopped himself beside Jaemin on the couch, throwing his arm over the younger's shoulder. "Now, answer my question."
"What question?" Jaemin asks, pretending to act innocently and if Renjun didn't know Jaemin so well, he'd think the younger really didn't have a clue on what he was talking about.
But that wasn't the case as Renjun slapped the back of his head. "Don't make me repeat myself," he warned. Jaemin knows how scary Renjun can be when he's upset so he decides that in order to save his ass from a beating, he'll answer.
"I don't know why I was watching it. I just find it interesting," Jaemin said and part of it was true. Sure, he did find it interesting but he can't help but feel that there was something more to this case that was connected somehow. He always finds himself going back to that specific case repeatedly.
Renjun nodded his head. "Law school is getting to your head too much. We haven't even graduated yet and here you are, studying cases that happened years ago that aren't even relevant today...You're not even the one studying law."
"What can I say? I'm an overachiever," Jaemin sassily flipped his imaginary hair.
"That you are," Renjun shot back with a chuckle. Both males were in their final year of college. Renjun is studying to become a forensic science technician, or in other terms, a crime scene investigator. The idea of being able to abstract evidence from a crime scene and use it to its full advantage and potential in helping police officials, has been something the older male has been wanting to do ever since he was younger when he had watched his first episode of CSI.
Jaemin on the other hand, was studying to become a youth care worker. He doesn't know why, but helping children whose households aren't the safest and counseling them to make sure they're okay, is something he really wants to pursue. Poor children have to go through such abusive and unsafe circumstances, it's unfair. No child deserves that no matter what so Jaemin wants to do everything in his power to help them.
Renjun lifted himself from the couch to go inside the kitchen and prepare dinner along with Jaemin. Soon enough, dinner was ready. (A/n: I was listening to Tiger Inside so I just had to)
"How was your time at your boyfriend's house?" Jaemin asked, taking a bit out of his meal.
"Good, we chilled," Renjun answered with his eyes full of light at the mention of his boyfriend. "When are you going to start dating? For as long as I've known you, you've never mentioned nor brought someone home."
"I'm not really interested into getting in a relationship. At least not right now. I want to focus on school and work," Jaemin answered honestly and Renjun scoffed playfully.
"Typical, Jaem.""You already know," Jaemin sassed, pretending to file his nails. The two laughed as they continued eating their dinner.
