Jaemin woke up the next morning, bright and early but his mood was dull. He made himself a cup of black coffee to hopefully wake himself up fully while getting ready in the bathroom to freshen up.
He slipped on a black dress shirt with dark blue jeans. He stared at the little jewelry box on top of his dresser, furrowing his eye brows. He reached out his hand and threw the lid open, revealing a chain with a locket attached to it.
In all honesty, Jaemin doesn't remember where he got this from. One day he had woken up and it had been circled around his neck. That was also the same day he moved back to Korea four years ago.
He doesn't know why he has it, but for some reason he feels a connection towards it. Like there was a rope tying him with it and the longer he was still clueless, the longer the rope gets, furthering him in the unknown.
He opened the circle shaped locket, which displayed a small drawing of a smiley face inside. A smile unknowingly crept on Jaemin's face.
'Cute.'
Jaemin took the chain and clasped it around his neck. Sure he may not know where it came from, but he won't put a necklace to waste. A knock on his room door echoed.
"Your coffee is done. Hurry up and drink it. The smell is hurting my head," Renjun nagged from the other side of the door as Jaemin chuckled, making his way out of his room to pour his coffee into his mug.
"You're over dramatic," Jaemin rolled his eyes, taking a sip of his coffee.
The older had awoken because of the aroma of coffee that fogged into the room, resulting in a grumpy Renjun. The smell of coffee hurts the poor short tempered boy's head and nose and they've discovered that the second day they moved in together.
'Hey, I'm home," Renjun walked through the door with his bag in his hand. He dropped his bag and brought his hand to cover his nose. "What the hell is that smell?"
Jaemin walked over with a cup of coffee in his hand from the living room, "Coffee. You want?" He offered, pointing towards the kitchen where the coffee brewer was located.
"No, that shit smells like ass," Renjun retorted, kicking off his sneakers while Jaemin snickered.
"What's so funny? I'm literally dying because of the smell in here," the older placed a hand on his hip.
"It's funny and ironic how you used shit and ass in the same sentence," Jaemin joked and Renjun rolled his eyes.
"That's not the point!" Renjun exclaimed with a pout while Jaemin giggled some more.
"Okay, okay. I'll try not to make coffee when you're around," Jaemin dealed and the older Chinese male agreed.
"I'm not over dramatic. I'm serious that stuff hurts," Renjun clutched his head, trying to make the younger feel guilty but Jaemin wasn't having any of it.
"Nice try you salty drama queen," Jaemin spoke after he downed all his coffee in the mug.
"Can't blame a bitch for trying, huh?" Renjun laughed along with Jaemin.
The younger grabbed his cell phone and house keys before letting Renjun know he was heading out for the day.
It was a Sunday and whenever the younger has a chance, he visits the children in the hospitals and orphanage to counsel them and overall just to spend time with them.
Those poor children have been through a lot and Jaemin can only imagine what it must be like to be in their shoes. The children in an orphanage because of abandonment or mistreatment. The children in hospitals because of illnesses and injuries that were implanted on purpose, which is why Jaemin sees them.
"Good morning, Mr. Kim," Jaemin greeted the receptionist who returned his greeting with a smile.
"Good morning! Here to see Choi Beomgyu again?" Mr. Kim asked and typed into his computer as Jaemin nodded.
"I am. I'm hoping this week's counseling goes better than last week's," Jaemin hoped and the receptionist agreed.
Knocking softly with two of his knuckles, Jaemin slid the door open to walk in and closed it behind him. There sat little Beomgyu on the bed, with a green hospital gown and a cast around his left arm and left foot, staring out the window
Now noticing the older's presence, the thirteen year old boy turned his head as his eyes flashed a wave of fear.
"Hi, Beomgyu. Remember me? If you don't, I'm-"
"Na Jaemin, yeah I got that before. Why are you here again, I thought I told you to leave me alone!" Beomgyu spat while furrowing his brows.
Though he was speaking angrily, his eyes showed a completely different emotion, which Jaemin hopes that he can get the young teenager to open up about with him.
Jaemin flashed a friendly smile, completely disregarding the younger boy's disrespectful attitude.
"How are you feeling today? I bet you can't wait to get out of here," Jaemin suggested, trying to release some of the tension.
"I'm fine, I really do want to leave, but they're not letting me yet," the young boy whined and Jaemin cooed at how the boy went from being angry to whiny in a few seconds.
"I understand. I heard the doctors had you undergo surgery and it was a success. I'm proud of you," Jaemin complimented, keeping his tone as gentle and relaxed as he possibly can.
"Yeah, I was scared at first. But then they said the quicker I get the surgery done, the faster I'll be able to heal and leave this place!" Beomgyu told.
"I see, I don't blame you," Jaemin chuckled before continuing. "And when you get out of here, I'm sure you want to go back home. Your parents must be excited that you're leaving the hospital soon, right? Have they seen you?"
The younger froze at Jaemin's questions. He looked away from the older and shook his head slowly. Jaemin smiled internally and decided to try and test the waters again.
