"Cedric, dear, you're parents said they'd be here in about an hour or two, so you have plenty of time to get freshened up before we get started on dinner and gifts," Amaryllis said as we walked through the front door, "The plan was originally for you to go home tonight and we'd all meet up tomorrow like usual, but Rosemary and Duncan have to leave earlier than we'd expected.""I think I'll go start on that right now," Cedric said, already heading for the stairs as I kicked off my shoes.
The ride back home had been awful. There were at least two babies that woke up crying almost every hour and it had threatened to drive me mad. Not to mention that there was nothing either of us could do to muffle the sound with magic without risking being seen or getting expelled from Hogwarts for using magic in front of muggles. The ministry would have a cow if they heard that an underaged witch and wizard had not only gone travelling by themselves but had used magic during said travelling.
There was also the fact that sleeping on a train was not the most comfortable thing in the world at the best of times, and that I wasn't used to being woken up at five in the morning to get off of said uncomfortable train. And of course, we can't forget what an absolute tragedy it is to try and apparate so soon after waking up or this early in the morning.
But I was home now, and from what Amaryllis had just said, I'd have at least an hour and a half to go back to sleep if I wanted before the Diggorys arrived. I probably wouldn't, but it was nice to know that there was an option.
I followed Cedric up the stairs, headed to my own room to put down my suitcase and perhaps write back the twins while I waited for Cedric to finish up in the bathroom. I stepped through the door, tossing the bag to the floor before making my way over to where I kept all of my stationary.
I pulled out a few sheets of paper and grabbed a pen before plopping myself down on my bed. I shuffled around for a bit, my return home ringing like a dinner bell to Mouse who I heard rush up the stairs before he jumped up on the bed himself.
I grabbed my potions book off my beside table and pressed it against my knees so I'd have something hard to write on, and then got busy on finally responding to George's letter reassuring me that everyone was okay.
George,
You got into a fight with Lee? You guys are like best friends, and I'm insulted that you'd think that I would just gloss over something like that. Are you guys okay? What did Madame Pomfrey say when you two wandered into the hospital wing? What were you even fighting over? Merlin, I have so many questions that I just know that you aren't going to answer when you write me back. But just wait until I come back to school. I'll make you tell me what happened one way or another, mark my words George Weasley.
However, I suppose the purpose of this letter isn't to scold you the whole time, and I suppose a fight is better than being turned into a human ice lolly. And you asked about me and what I'd been up to, so I guess I'll be the one to be answering any actual questions that I've been asked.
Surprisingly, a lot has happened since I've returned home. I've already been given two gifts and it's just now Christmas Eve. I'm going to have to show you one of them in person or else you'd be getting a letter that's six pages long. Like honestly, you're going to want to shut my mouth for me when I start talking about it in person. In the least descriptive way, it's a scrapbook and it's got some of my family information in it, and I'm super excited.
I also got this really pretty necklace that I'll have to sort of explain the first gift to explain how I came to get it, so we have much catching up to do when I get back.
On a much less cheery note, I've had more dreams since I've been gone. Two to be exact. I don't want to frighten you, because I know it probably sounds a little spooky to say that I know exactly what is going on at Hogwarts while I'm not there, but I just want to know who's been petrified this time. First the cat, then Colin, and now somebody else. So, if you know who it is, and I know you do, please just let me know.
