I had been talking to George outside the great hall when Cedric ran up and told me George could wait, and that he had news. He wouldn't elaborate as he drug me through the halls no matter how much I begged him. It all boiled down to the fact that this was top secret information, and it got to the point where he insisted on privacy so much he was beginning to scare me. We went all of the way down to the hufflepuff dorms and into my room which was void of anyone except the two of us. He pulled the door shut, and with a wave of his wand, the door was locked.

Only then did he take a breath and share the big news with me. Apparently, Harry had come to him and told him about the first trial of the triwizard tournament. Only, it didn't quite register in my brain when he said it the first time. There was no way that it could be true, not for the first trial. I knew that they were meant to be trying, but this didn't sound at all like this was meant for the first time.

"I'm sorry, Harry told you the first trial was what?" I asked, staring at Cedric in disbelief.

"Dragons," He said, "Something with dragons."

So, I did hear him right. Hogwarts was allowing dragons to be brought onto the school grounds and allowing students to interact with them. I mean, they didn't seem to have a problem with a Basilisk roaming through the school, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but why would they choose that when they have a wizard who was under the age requirement attending this stupid tournament?

"I've never even seen a dragon in real life, and they're just bringing them here for this? Is that really the way to ease into the tournament."

"I think that's sort of the point, it's supposed to be hard, weed out the weak and show off the strong," Cedric said with a smile, "And I think I could take on a dragon any day."

"You're joking right? You going up against a dragon?"

"I mean, I have to have some confidence in myself since it's obvious that you don't."

It hurt that Ced didn't think that I was on his side, but he did have a point. He was barely seventeen and now he was just expecting me to believe that he was gonna be able to fight a dragon with help much less on his own. No one in their right mind would tell him that he could do it with no problem now that it was something that he was actually going to have to do. If it had been anything else I could have stood by him and supported him, but dragons?

"Do you even know anything about dragons?"

"Well, no, but, I'm sure it's not gonna be that serious."

"You could die," I said, "Dragons are huge, and I don't know how limited your dragon knowledge is, but they breathe fire!"

"Fine, what do you think I should do?"

"You know that I think that you shouldn't have put your name in to start with, but now that we know it has to do with dragons, I think we need to get to the library."

"You want me to read books to prepare to fight a dragon?"

"If you learn about dragons, you can learn how to maneuver around them."

"Why is your answer to everything to study?"

"It's not the answer to everything, but in this case, it is the only thing that I can think of," I sighed.

I knew that there were plenty of books in the library about magical creatures, so at least one of them had to have some information on dragons. Obviously, we wouldn't have time to learn every detail about every kind of dragon in just a few days, but it could help him be more prepared than he was now.

"Okay, okay, we'll go study, if it will make up feel better."

"Thank you."

Cedric and I studied about dragons until I was sure I'd be dreaming of them for months. We had narrowed it down to a select few dragons it could be considering the fact that they were told that the trial was to test their daring. Whatever that meant. So, this knocked the Opaleye as they tended to be very docile and not a test of bravery, as well as the Vipertooth as we found out it was extinct, thankfully.
