Chapter 13 – Danny’s PoV
Tenderly I kissed her head and whispered a goodnight before leaving the room. As soon as I’m far enough away that she won’t see or hear me I let out a sigh of frustration and kick over a nearby medicine trolley. Fucking hell Danny! What the fuck is up with your live? All this over some girl you met like five hours ago! Trust you.
I carefully pick up the trolley and place back in its place making sure everything’s back in its rightful place. For a minute, just a minute, I nearly take a packet of drugs with me. I know, I know! It’s a stupid idea, but right now I need an escape that only pills can give. But I didn’t take them; I refuse to go back there. You see it was on this day, all those years ago, when she broke my heart, that I took my first overdose. I refuse to tell you anymore; you don’t need to know about it! I’m so ashamed of myself for doing that, so ashamed that I’ve only talked about it to Mark and Glen once. And they are my best friends! I risked everything because of one person; I’m not doing that again. Ever.
Swiftly I walk down the hospital corridor, god I hate these places. They all smell the same of death and chemicals; not a nice mix. I make my way towards the exit at the speed of sound trying to escape the grip of that stench, scared that if I stayed much longer I’d just become a part of it. No longer a human just a horrid smell floating on the breeze. Dam I watch far too many horror films! Suddenly I hear shouting from outside, lots of shouting and cheering. What the hell is that? Oh well nothing to do with me. I just carry on walking, head down, thinking deep and meaningful thoughts-ha! Me deep and meaningful? I don’t think so! As I walk further down the poorly light corridor the sound gets louder and louder making my ears hurt from the sure intensity. It almost feels like I’m at a concert people shouting and screaming my name....
Wait up! They are shouting my name! I run to the nearest window and my heart stops at the sight before me. Holy Mary! Standing below me and hundreds of fans are standing shouting my name. Shit the bed! How the hell did they know I was here? Cameras are flashing and press vans are appearing left, right and centre. Police sirens fill the air trying to help security push the mob back away from the hospital with no such luck. I lean against the wall and let my body slip it the floor. How could this happen? Then it hits me like a piano on the head (watch Laurel and Hardy the music box, you’ll get what I mean). Obviously someone’s fobbed the press off about Rori and now it’s all other twitter etc. Oh dear god no!
Could this day get any worse?
My phone starts to buzz in my pocket and I sigh. I pull it out and look at the caller ID, Amy. Apparently it can. I really don’t want to talk to her right now, not after today’s little episode. Funny how we started off as each other’s booty calls tonight and now I find it hard to think of her without blowing a blood vessel. Weird how times change. My finger floats over the ignore button but I couldn’t bring myself to it. Sighing again I answer the phone.
“What do you want Amy?” I asked venomously. I hate myself for talking to her like that but she’s the reason a kids been hospitalised, so she kinda deserves.
“To save your sorry arse is what I want! Meet me in the cafeteria in five minutes.” Was her curt reply before she hangs up briskly. Charmed I’m sure!
Never the less I’m sure she has a plan up those designer silk sleeves so I do as she says. It takes me forever to find cafeteria in the marble maze that is the hospital but eventually I do. Like she said she would she’s sitting at a table waiting for me. She looked exhausted and was sipping away at a coffee, most probably a decaf. When she saw me she immediately looked down, obviously ashamed of her previous actions. To right! Subtly I glanced at the clock on the wall, right on time. I saunter over to the table and notice the extra coffee sitting waiting for me. If she thinks she can buy me of with drinks then she’s sorely mistaken! Never the less I take a long sip revelling in the strong taste of fresh coffee beans. So this is what heaven tastes like!
