March 19th 2008 Stark Mansion, Malibu
"It's eleven am in Malib-"
"Jarvis!" Aria groaned, burying her head under her pillow, "Shut up!"
A low grumble came from next to her and she lifted the pillow to see Damian rising to consciousness. She scrunched her eyes shut and cursed herself.
"Morning," he grumbled.
"Good morning," she dragged herself upright, "You should get going. My dad will be back soon."
"Eesh, wouldn't want a run in with the parents."
He was gone without her even having to leave bed.
It was the afternoon when she dragged herself downstairs. The house was miraculously clean as ever. That's what Tony liked, silent efficiency. She knew people worked here but she rarely saw them. They merely dealt with things before the Starks had to worry about them.
Music sounded from the basement. So, he was home. She didn't feel like speaking to him just yet.
As she lay on the sofa, eating buttered toast, Pepper walked in. "Aria, how was last night?"
"So much fun, Pep. Thank you. Everyone was so impressed."
"I heard my champagne tower went down a treat."
Aria laughed, "It sure went down."
"Your dad is back, if you want to go down and say hi."
She twisted her ruby ring around her finger, "Yeah, will do. Where has he been? New York?"
"Hong Kong."
She hauled herself up, humming an unimpressed "Wow," as she headed for the stairs.
Downstairs, her father was blasting music, working away at his computer. He looked up as she walked in and smiled warmly, "Hiya, munchkin."
