Aria's foot tapped to the rhythm as AC/DC blasted from the stereo, squished in the middle seat between her father and a cute soldier who kept sneaking not so subtle glances at her. She stared blankly out the front window of the jeep, at the never-ending desert before them. Nothing but sand to keep her entertained.
Her eyes flicked up to the soldier: when in Rome.
She glanced up at him and fluttered her eyelashes, "So, do you like... shoot guns and stuff?"
Her father rolled his eyes and coincidentally knocked his scotch onto her cream pants. She shot him a glare and elbowed him, he just smirked. The poor boy stuck in the back with them spent the next five minutes avoiding eye contact with either of them.
The ice in Tony's scotch bounced against the glass as they rumbled over the dirt roads. The two soldiers in the front stole intermittent glances at the pair, but looked away guiltily after each one.
Aria was counting the seconds until her father's capacity for silence ran out. Three. Two.
"I feel like you're driving me to a court-martial. This is crazy. What did I do? I feel like you're going to pull over and snuff me." still nobody replied, "What, you're not allowed to talk? Hey, Forrest!"
"We can talk, sir." the soldier in the back said.
"Oh, I see. So it's personal?"
"No, you intimidate them.", the female soldier up front laughed.
"Good god, you're a woman. I honestly... I couldn't have called that." he said, "I mean, I'd apologize, but isn't that what we're going for here? I thought of you as a soldier first."
