Waking up with her in my arms took me back a whole century when things were easier. She slept like a princess her hair was perfect, her mouth only slightly parted as she breathed quietly. Now I could her hear heart beating softly. It brought me peace. I felt happy with her like this.

Of course that was disrupted by my brother like normal, he knocked on the door and pushed it open. "Time doesn't change anything." I say to him. "Sorry... I just came to check on her. I didn't know you were here." He apologised. He would often come to Elle's door in the mornings if he was allowed into the house and check on her. Or just come and talk with her. She was a good person. she gave stef the love he lacked from our harsh parents. It saddened me that she never got to be a mother... she always talked about it.

FLASHBACK

"Our children will always be happy." She sung as we walked the land at the front of my parents house. "Of course, the happiest." I say smile at her. We often spoke about our future children, our parents were worried we were too young for that sort of thing, but people have children at 16, we were 18... we could talk about them. "And they won't obey gender stereotypes." She added. "The girls will be able to play football and get dirty." I nodded. "And the boys can cry and not be fearful of being scolded." I tell her. "Most defiantly." I smiled, I loved that she wasn't fazed by my vulnerable side my father tried to beat out of me. "We'll never hurt them." She says firmly.

This conversation is coming off the back of a lashing I just got from my father for comforting Stefan after he began to cry about mother... she had recently passed from consumption. He was allowed to cry if he wanted to. But dad said two years was too long to be sad about it... it was his mother who cares how long he was sad about it! Arabella nursed my wounds after, cleaning them up so I didn't gain an infection... she'd be a good wife.

"Oh all the pretty dresses we'll buy." She gushed. I smiled down. "And we'll teach them all how to read and write." I assured her, knowing she wasn't allowed to learn... I taught her regardless. She loved reading it was the best gift I could give to her. She smiled. "We'll have a home, not a house. And they can run and play and love." She continued.

END OF FLASHBACK

Bella stirred a little but she didn't wake up, I just rested my hand on her head and stroked her hair to keep her at peace. "Did our father do that to her?" Stefan asked staying at the door. He sounded like a child. I looked down, her scar from a hot piece of melt was on show, her hair not covering it fully. I shake my head, moving her hair to cover it, she hated people looking at it... "How did it... how did it happen?" I looked at Stefan, Arabella and I protected him from more than he'll ever understand. "Her father did it..." He looked horrified. Then angry. "You weren't kidding when you said he brainwashed her not to fight back." "I'm sorry Stefan." "We should have protected her." "You were a kid it's not your fault okay." I tell him firmly. Bella wouldn't want him blaming his self. "Did he hurt her a lot?" "Stefan this is a conversation you should have with her." I say not wanting to get into it. It makes me feel sick the man repulsed me and he's lucky a wolf got to him before I did.

"Okay." He said quietly. "Is she okay? After last night?" "She's not said much..." I say looking back down at her on my chest. I shifted a little sitting up so I could talk to Stefan properly. "I locked the doors how did you get in?" "Key." He held it up. I nodded. I didn't get a key. Why?

"She's still asleep?" Bonnie said coming in. "She never sleeps in." "It's because she can't sleep." Stefan tells her. "Huh?" "She always slept better when Damon would stay with her." He informs us. "She told me he makes her feel safe... Way back when." He added. I smiled slightly but tried to hide it. I kissed the top of her head again. "I'll always keep my safe Elle." I whispered to her. She moved slightly but kept her eyes closed. "She needs to wake up." Bonnie came in leaving Stefan at the door. "Wait." I say putting my arm out to stop her from physically waking her.
