chapter thirteen: the priest

One would say the shadows were a vampires best friend...but Chrollo was spending way too much time hiding in the dark for it to be considered his best friend. Perhaps his lover?

Oh why are you always thinking about him? Be quiet already! I shake my head and concentrate on my prayers. But lately, most of my prayers were blank and without any actual praying. My thoughts were occupied by the man stalking me like a wolf. Sometimes I liked being the prey and he the wolf. I felt like a painting, being viewed and admired from afar. No one dared touch it because if you did then either guards would be tackling you or you'd receive many glares by others.

I was...enjoying being watched by him.

It was strange to admit but back at the church I was always overlooked even by my own friend. Just a girl who opened the doors and did her chores, nothing else yet this man, he viewed me as something else.

Food. The voice in the back of my head reminds me and I frown.

I knew he could read minds but we had both agreed a few days ago that he wasn't allowed to read my thoughts during my praying. He accepted, surprisingly. I figured they bore him or years of being treated like an outcast by the church must've simply frightened him from hearing any sort of prayer.

My eyes flickered open and my soul nearly jumps out when I see Neon kneeling beside me.

"Neon!" I gasp, almost melting into the ground.

"Did I scare you, my lady?" She peeked a single eye and then closed them once again.

"Obviously! How come I didn't hear you walk in?"

"Ah that's because vampires have this little special talent we call walking really quietly." She put her fingers up to her lips as if to keep the secret to myself. "Is it considered rude to ask what someone else is praying for?"

"I don't consider it rude."

"Ah but it'd be considered rude if I read your mind while praying, right?"

"Reading my mind at any moment is rude." I frown.

"Don't worry, I can't read minds. I don't have such powers like Lucilfer does. But he's the king so we can't be that surprised of what he can do anyway." She giggles and then looks back at the old throne.

It wasn't god but it was beautiful. The throne room was the only place where his loyal servants and maids couldn't follow me. Chrollo allowed me to be in here whenever I wanted and because of the quietness I decided to rename it as the praying room. He didn't use it anyway.

I glance over my shoulder, making sure we were alone. "What other power does he have?"

"He can turn invisible. That man has scared me so many times."

"I can only imagine what a pervert with that sort of power does." I sigh loudly and she bursted out laughing. I put my hands on my lap, my brows scrunching with confusion. My words couldn't have been that funny but for Neon she was practically crying tears of joy. I wait till she's done laughing and when she does she's leaning all over me.

"I've never heard anyone call him a pervert! Human mortals are so rude! You're my favorite mortal girl. Don't ever stop speaking the truth, alright?" She squeezed my arm and then sat back up. "You know back then people would come into the throne room and pray to him."
