chapter twenty seven: a crisisI didn't sleep that night. It was freezing, even with all the layers I wore and the heavy covers above me, I was freezing.
I shivered in my bed, begging to the gods to let me rest peacefully but all of the gods ignored me, and they'll continue to ignore me especially after I ignored them. I frown at my loud thoughts. I open my eyes, staring at the mirror across my room and wonder if the reason why the gods were ignoring me was because I refused to listen to them when they tried taking me away. Was this my punishment?
Oh what did I get myself into? Regret was starting to sink in. I sat up, my heart was being squeezed tight by reality. I was going to be alive for forever, while my friends and family grew old and then returned back to the earth I would still be standing. I'd be standing over all of their graves, wishing that I too could be at peace for eternity.
I curse under my breath, the long night only made my thoughts spiral in my head. Before I knew it my ladies came in to get me dressed for the day. My body was heavy, wanting to drag me all the way down to the floor. I ached for my bed, wishing to get an ounce of sleep before battling the next painful hours.
The knock on my door pulled me out of my thoughts and I turn expecting to see Chrollo, instead the red haired man is smiling down at me.
"How are you doing my lady (y/n)?"
"Hisoka," is all I say. I have no energy to even speak to him.
"Someone has been bothering me all day to come and visit you."
"Who is?"
He stepped to the side and revealed the black cat from behind. It meowed, I could've sworn it winked at me. I shoot it a glare and step away from both of them. It only takes me a moment to understand that he had another pair of eyes watching when he couldn't.
This cat...was it his creations? Did he purposely help me find that book? I frown at him.
"If you don't mind I'd like to get back into bed."
"Bed? The day just started."
"I meant I'd like for some peace and quiet alone."
He chuckled. "I only came to see how you were doing. I have to admit I was a bit worried you wouldn't be able to handle a bite but so far you look...like you're glowing." His lips creeped into a smile.
"Did you expect me to be dead?"
"I did. I should've known better since you are after all our lady (y/n)."
"Don't call me that."
"Forgive me your grace,"
"Don't call me that either."
"I have a good reason that I hope you can understand, you see back then when our lady was still alive she had me as her royal whisperer. I stood by her side at all times to tell her what the wind often whispered to me, sometimes good and sometimes bad but all secrets were helpful to keep her alive." He reached out for my hand and I cautiously grab it.
"How was the old (y/n) like?"
"Very strong yet gentle. It's what made many respect her."
"And if your secrets were meant to keep her safe then how come she ended up dead?"
"Death is cruel, just because he let you live this time doesn't mean he'll let you live next time he bumps into you. It's something I can't control, no one can." He let go of my hand. "I'll leave you alone now since I can very obviously see the irritation in your face. I'd start practicing how to mask it if you're planning on marrying the king, no one likes a grouchy woman."
