Hopeless.

Thranduil shook his head. "These are impossible. This language is ancient...older than myself, possibly. And it was written by Orcs. Perhaps they will know how to translate this."

I was giving up hope. Thranduil was useless. Gandalf was useless. There was almost nothing more I could do to save Thorin.

Bard came walking up and he glanced at the book. "These symbols...I've seen them before." He ran a finger along the page. "A long time ago, I saw these carved into the wall of an old cave. They were written with a rough translation that an old wizard read to me. Not Gandalf. An older wizard. He had a lot of animals."

"Radagast!" I gasped. "He could be the answer to this. Bard, do you think he would remember?"

"There's a slight possibility, but that wizard is a little out there, for lack of a better term." Bard shrugged.

"So he's crazy?"

"You could say that."

"I don't give a fuck if he has half a brain. If he remembers these symbols and what they say, I'm going to find him and save Thorin. I refuse to believe this is hopeless!" My voice wavered a little. I wasn't actually as confident as I sounded.

It was hard to believe I loved him once. He had loved me. Then I got taken by the Orcs and my entire world got turned upside down. I could have been there, should have been there! I could have stopped him from getting the Arkenstone, and he would have remained as himself. I could have saved Kili too...

"I see the regret in your eyes," Bard said, his voice full of sympathy. "None of this is your fault, Master Baggins. We play the cards we are dealt, and you were dealt a bad hand. Play the hand and get a new one. Your luck could turn around. Fight for Thorin. The love you had for him, it's still there, buried deep down. You can fight for it. Love conquers all."

"It's so hard..." I fought back tears. "I do love him. He did me wrong but I can't help but think if I had never gone with the Orcs, he wouldn't be this way."

"You had no choice. You did what you had to do to save the company. It was a heroic move, and you suffered, but so did Thorin. You know, maybe this spell isn't the way to go. Maybe love can break the hold that evil stone has over him."

"This isn't a fairytale..."

"All Im saying is, if the spell doesn't work, it isn't hopeless. Just remember my words. I feel like another journey will be in order, and you're going to have to go far, and I don't want you to forget my words. Godspeed, Master Baggins."

Looks like I was taking a trip to see Radagast the Brown.
