Facing My Demons.

I arrived at Erebor, shocked at how much it had changed. It was beautiful, and surprisingly so. Well, that would make sense. With Smaug gone, the city was flourishing again.

With Smaug gone--and Thorin as king.

I didn't know what I would do when or if I faced him. The task I was being sent to do was a grim one, one I still was struggling with myself for agreeing to undertake. But I wanted to do something nice for them. I owed Balin and Fili and Kili...even if they hated me.

I prepared for the journey. They had agreed to send Bofur to come and collect me, and I had an hour to get together everything I needed. The journey would be a long and tedious one, crossing over mountains, through forests, across seas. I was far away from where the battle had been. And to make matters worse, we had to pass through Moria.

Just fucking great.

I finished packing up my stuff and waited for Bofur at the entrance to the castle. I stood back for a moment to survey my surroundings. Mirkwood was the furthest from beautiful, but it was, well, kind of serene. And it had been my home for the past year. I had already accepted the fact that I would probably never return to Bag End. What was the point? There was nothing there I wanted anymore.

Bofur arrived shortly after I had my private goodbye to Mirkwood. He looked delighted to see me. Can't say I reciprocated the sentiment.

"Hello, Bofur." Well, fuck me. Why was my voice so damn formal? Bofur was not Thorin. He was my friend.

"Bilbo, I am so happy to see you. Happy you're okay." He spoke with cheerfulness, but he was rather wary of me. "We have a long journey ahead of us, but I think we can do it."

I nodded. "Well, I'm ready."

I wasnt ready. I would never be ready. Never ready to see him again. I mean, what was there to say, really?

I grabbed my things and left Mirkwood behind, with Bofur behind me. It was time to face my demons.

(It's short, I know, but it's something. Love ya'll!)
