"I'm sorry, but there is nothing we can do." The lady behind the kiosk told you sadly.
You just nodded your head and walked away defeated. This was going to be the very first year you weren't spending Christmas with your familiy. Your dad tried to tell you that going to a college all the way in Philly was a bad idea, but you didn't listen. You were so wrapped up in your boyfriend Claude Giroux at the time, you could care less. But now that Claude left you heart broken, for the second time, you somehow found yourself sitting on a bench at the airport crying. Claude had called you that morning explaining that he had just lost interest, and he wanted to remain friends. Yeah, dick move Claude.
"Y/N?" You heard a voice behind you ask pulling you from your stream of deep thoughts.
You poked your head up to see the one and only Max Talbot staring back at you. You rolled your eyes before sending him a death glare.
"Let me guess, Claude sent you?"
He shook his head no and sat down on the bench next to you.
"Why? Did you and lover boy get into it again?" He joked showing that contagious Talbot smile.
You let a sob escape the back of your throat and almost instantly Max had his arms wrapped around you, comforting you, helping you.
"What happened?" He asked in a whisper.
"It's none of your business. What are you doing here anyway?" You asked as you pushed him away.
"Geez, I was just trying to help you. I was here to try to fly home, but I think that's out of the question with this weather." He replied.
"Yeah, same reason I'm here." You replied coldly.
"Come on, let's go do something, there is no reason we should both spend our Christmas Eve alone." He said standing up and holding a hand out for you to take.
You shook your head and laughed lightly.
"You think I'm going to go with you? I've seen the way you treat girls, no thank you, I've had enough heartbreak for one day." As the words rolled off your tounge you were reminded of Claude.
"Come on beautiful, just one night with the one and only Max Talbot. There are girls who would kill to be in your position." He said with cockiness.
You got up annoyed with his attitude and began walking away. Before you could walk past the bench, Max reached out for your arm and gently pulled you back towards him.
"Okay, I'm sorry, that was out of line." He apologized.
"Woah, Max Talbot actually apologizing?" You voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Why do you hate me so much?" He asked.
You shrugged your shoulders.
"I've heard plenty about you from Claude, I know your type and I don't want to get pulled into that."
Max sighed and looked at you before dropping your arm he was still holding gently. He put his hands in his pockets dropping his head for a nano second before looking deep into your eyes.
"What if I told you Claude knows nothing about me?" He argued.
"You guys are team mates, I'm pretty sure he would know."
"Oh really?" Max wasn't giving this up.
"So, does Claude act the same way around you and his family, that he does in the locker room?" He added.
Shit, he had a point.
"No, but I was his girlfriend, it's different." You rebuttled.
"True, but you still don't know the real Maxime." He smiled and took your hand.
