"Mia, we're getting you trashed tonight!" Winter said as she ordered Mia another shot at the bar.
Mia had been going through a lot with school and just life in general. She was contemplating whether or not to drop her sorority and she was just all around confused about life so her friends wanted to take her out. She had super high heels on and a skin tight, short, black, low-cut sexy dress. This was very out of Mia's comfort zone and she felt slightly uncomfortable.
"I've already had too many." Mia assured Winter.
"Mia, come on! Let go and have some fun!" Aly urged handing Mia the shot and as the night progressed down many more.
Mia was on the dance floor having the best time with her friends as they were very drunk as well. Mia became so drunk that she was stumbling in the high heels and was afraid that she was going to pass out. She went to the bathroom to pee and when she came back she couldn't find her friends. The alcohol heightened her anxiety in the situation making her even more freaked out. She went and sat at the bar to try and see if they were around there and to try and calm herself down. She was getting more and more freaked out as she couldn't find them. She pulled out her phone to text them; no response. She didn't know what else to do so she texted her best friend.Mia: Hey, are youuuu up? I reallkjhy need helpaa.
The alcohol was obviously affecting her to the point of where she couldn't even type.
Sidney: I'm just getting ready to go to bed. What's wrong? Is everything okay?
'Oh no, I don't want to mess up his sleep schedule during the season.' Mia thought to herself and put her phone down.
She sat there for a few minutes contemplating what to do when her phone rang; it was Sidney.
"Hello!" She said slurring her words but excited to hear from a friend.
"Are you drunk? Where are you Mia?" Sidney asked concerned.
"I'm at SkyBar and I lost my friends. You don't have to come! You need to sleep so you can play hockey!" Sidney laughed at how excited Mia sounded even though she was in a bar pretty much alone.
"I'm coming, I'll be there in 15 minutes." Sidney responded.
"I feel so bad."
"Don't, I want you to be safe. I'll see you soon." He said before hanging up the phone.
Before she could even set her phone down at the bar she heard her name being called from behind her that instantly sent chills down her spine.
"Mia!" said the voice.
She turned around and was met with the one person she didn't want to see at all. Her ex boyfriend, Alex. Mia and Alex had dated for about two years and he was one of the most abusive people she had ever encountered. At one point he threw her onto the floor and kicked her when they were arguing. Her blood ran cold as he walked toward her and motioned for the bartender so he could order her a drink.
"How are you baby girl?" He asked placing his hand on her back."What are you doing here?" She asked nearly terrified.
"If you think I followed you I didn't, I saw you and wanted to come over, I'm here with my friends." He gestured to his friends sitting at a table nearby."I really miss you Mia." He said.
Mia didn't even want to open her mouth and talk to Alex as she was horrified."Why don't you come sit with us?" He gestured to her.
"I think I need to go." She said getting up to start leaving when he grabbed her arm and pulled her back to her seat.
"I think you should stay. You look hot as hell; why didn't you ever wear anything like this when we were together?" He asked eyeing her up and down like a piece of meat even going as far as licking his lips."Please let me go." Mia pleaded just wanting to be as far away from him as possible.
"Don't you miss what we used to have? Don't you miss me? I was your first love, you even said it yourself." He said getting in her face.
"You were also the first man to throw me to the ground and kick me!" She spat back letting the alcohol speak for her.
He was very taken back as she never stood up for herself before. He grabbed her arm harshly and pulled her towards him, his face inches from hers.
"Who the fuck do you think you are talking to me like that?" He whispered to her causing her to wish she hadn't said a word.
He was about to say something again when you felt him being pushed off of you. You looked up and saw Sidney in his face putting his finger into Alex's chest shouting at him. Sidney had a dark hoodie and glasses on so no one would know who he was. He said one last thing to Alex before grabbing your hand and pulling you out of the bar and into his black Range Rover. Before Sidney could even say anything to her she broke down sobbing.
"Mia, I want so badly to comfort you right now but we need to get out of the city." Sidney said reaching over and taking her hand into his as he pulled away. She cried the whole way home and when she got out of the car she could hardly walk because of the alcohol. She didn't realize how drunk she was until she had sat down for a long time. Sidney noticed her struggling and walked over and picked her up with such ease.
"How much did you have to drink?" He asked her carrying her up the driveway.
"Too much." She said as she placed her head on his chest. Before she knew it they were inside and he was setting her down on the couch gently. He walked out of the room and returned moments later with a bottle of water and a blanket for her. She slipped her high heels off and rested her head on the couch.
"What happened?" Sid asked as he opened the bottle of water for you.
Mia's eyes filled up with tears as she remembered the horrible evening in her mind.
"I went to the bar with Winter and Aly, I got really drunk and then I couldn't find them. I went to the bar and that's when you called me, when I was waiting for you Alex came up and told me he missed me and when I got up to leave he pulled me back down. I was so scared..." Mia said as she chocked out a sob.
Sidney was quick to pull her into his arms and comfort her.
"I'm a fucking mess! I don't know what I'm doing in my life, school is so fucking hard, I don't know if I can keep up with my sorority, I have a psycho ex boyfriend, and my "friends" left me at a bar." She said making herself even more emotional.
"Well your phone's on the counter and your friends are blowing it up because Alex told them you took an Uber home." Sidney explained.
"Why can't he just leave me alone?"Sidney sighed wishing that he could fix this.
"Mia, you're going to get through school, its hard but you're smart and I know you can do it. If you have to take a break from your sorority then so be it, you're in college to get an education, not just make friends. The Alex thing isn't your fault, you were a victim of his abuse and he's trash.""I'm afraid to go home because he might try and come over." Mia admitted as she wiped one of her tears away.
"You're staying here, and tomorrow I'm having my manager call the police on his ass, he cannot harass you like that."
"Thanks Sid, you're such a good friend." Mia smiled leaning your head on his chest letting the smell of his cologne engulf you.
"I'm always going to be here." He reassured her."You can sleep in my room."
"Will you stay in there with me? It's okay if you say no, I'm just afraid..." she trailed off."Of course I'll stay in there with you. Come on, lets go upstairs." He said.
They both walked up Sid's beautiful staircase leading up to his huge master bedroom.
"How many girls have been up here?" Mia joked.
"Less than you think." He laughed.
"I need to ask you something. What possessed you to dress like that?"
"Winter said I needed to look hot."
"Believe me, you do not need to dress like that to look hot, you're beautiful." Sid assured her.
She smiled and thanked him.
"Can I borrow some clothes?" She said and he handed her some sweats and a t shirt.
"I'm sure they'll be huge on you but it's all I've got."She assured him it was fine and went into the bathroom to change, when she came out Sid was in bed waiting for her.
"Thank you for taking care of me tonight, you're the best friend I've ever had." She said climbing into bed with him. They laid there watching TV and chatting for hours, it was almost morning.
"Sidney, do you think anyone will ever love me again? I'm so fucked up from Alex...."
Sidney stared at her for a minute debating on what to tell her.
"You really don't see it, do you?" He said as a chuckle escaped his mouth.
"What do you mean?"
"Mia, you're gorgeous! Remember when you came over that day my team was here? They all wanted you! I had to practically pry them off of you. They still ask about you and that party was a year ago. Mia, when you walk into a room people's eyes are drawn to you instantly because you have this smile that just lights up a room and you're just so incredible."
Mia smiled and looked at Sid with the most serious eyes he's ever shown to her.
"Mia, I'm in love with you. It took me so long to admit it because I know that you don't feel the same. I know to you we're just friends and that's all we'll ever be. But I'm just in love with you, I love every single thing about you and I love being around you. I've known you for so long and I know that there's no one in the world better for me. You've seen me at my highest and at my lowest and through all of it you've supported me and been there for me when I needed you. Remember when we lost in the Stanley Cup game? I was never in a worse place than I was in that moment, but you came over and did everything you could to make me feel better. And when we won the cup the next year you were there to celebrate with me. You're everything to me and I've wanted to tell you for so long." Sid admitted in one long breath.
Mia's eyes were wide and she was shocked but she knew exactly what to do. Mia reached out and instantly connected her lips with his."I love you to Sidney, I always have. I've been too scared to tell you and I guess you felt the same." She said before he kissed her with as much passion as he had.
"Let's go to sleep, you've had a long night." He said as he pulled back from kissing her.
They laid down in each others arms, finally truly happy and content.
