Louis was driving over to Niall and Liam's to get Matty, who had slept over at theirs because Louis had to work a big wedding. Usually when he had to work late Matty stayed at home with his nanny, but Louis had given her the night off when Liam offered to have Matty over for the night, probably knowing Louis was working that evening; he almost always had to work Saturdays, it was the busiest day in the event planning business.
When he reached the house, he rang the doorbell and a woman Louis had never seen before opened the door. She seemed to be in her fifties, her hair was slicked back in a tight bun and she was little chubby; she had to be the new nanny.
"Can I help you?" she asked looking at Louis up and down in a very unfriendly manner.
"Yes, I'm here to pick up Matty" Louis replied.
She raised an eyebrow as if she had no idea what Louis was talking about.
"A little boy, about this height" Louis moved his hand down to show her "Green eyes, light brown hair that curls around the ends, cute as a button?".
"I know who Matthew is, but I don't know who you are" the woman replied.
"I'm sorry, I should have started with that. I'm Louis Tomlinson, I'm Matty's father, I'm guessing you're the new nanny?" Louis said stretching his hand for a handshake.
"Yes, I'm Mrs. Roberts" she said looking at Louis's hand like it had bacteria, but shook it nonetheless.
"Nice to meet you" Louis said, but it really wasn't "Can I come in?".
She opened the door widely and Louis took it as an invitation to come in.
"Mr. Payne is in the backyard playing with the children, Matthew included" Mrs. Roberts said "Would you like me to take you there?".
"No, I know my way around this house, thanks" Louis said and walked away from her.
Louis already hated her, she was stuck up and he hated stuck up people, they were the worse. Why did she call Matty Matthew? Nobody called him that, he was sure neither Niall nor Liam had told her to call him that.
He reached the sliding doors at the end of the living room and went out. There was a trampoline that had no been there the last time Louis had been in the backyard and Nora and Violet were jumping and laughing in there and said a quick hi to Louis when he said hello to them. On the back end of the yard, he saw Jace kicking a football to Liam, who had Matty sitting on his shoulders, and the little boy giggled when Liam ran to kick the football back to Jace.
"Matty!" Louis said when he was at a hearing distance.
Matty turned his head around in less than a second and grinned at him, he looked cute in the green jumper Louis had packed for him the night before, it matched his eyes perfectly.
"Papa!" He cheered and started making grabby hands at him and jumping up and down on Liam's shoulders "Papa, papa, papa, papa".
Louis laughed and so did Liam, who took Matty off of his shoulders.
"Come here monkey" Louis said taking him from Liam's arms and kissing his cheek "I missed you".
"Miss you papa" Matty replied wrapping his arms and legs around Louis and snuggling close to his chest.
"Thanks for taking care of him Li" Louis said to his friend.
"It was no trouble, we love it when Matty sleeps over, don't we Jace?" Liam asked his son who was now standing next to him.
"Yeah" Jace nodded eagerly "We played cars and trucks and we drawed and colored and today we jump in the jumping thing".
Matty was nodding, confirming everything Jace said, he always did that, it was cute.
