Matty's second round of chemo started on Monday, and the throwing up was worse than before because it had been happening at least two times every day, instead of every other day like it used to happen, but at least now Matty was letting Louis, Eleanor, or whoever was with him, know that he wasn't feeling well so messes were being avoided. The result of it was the Matty was constantly on an IV drip to get fluids on him, and they were also giving him vitamins and other supplements to keep him as healthy as possible.
On the bright side of things, Louis had had his egg harvested on Wednesday and it had gone great, so they were now stored at the clinic waiting for the sperm to be 'donated'.
"Hi Louis" Zayn said walking inside the room on Friday morning.
"Hi" Louis said standing up from were he was sitting and went to shake hands with him "Matty just fell asleep, he's always tired after the chemo, do you need him awake?".
"No, don't worry he should get his sleep" Zayn replied "I wanted to let you know that we decided we'll be changing the medication for the nausea, the one we're giving him now isn't working properly".
"So he won't be so sick anymore?" Louis wondered.
"Hopefully" Zayn nodded "From what the nurses have written on his chart, I've noticed he only eats a little every day and he usually throws up, so it's almost as if he wasn't eating. The vitamins and supplements are helping him with some deficiencies, but they're not the equivalent of food, so that's why he's loosing weigh, which I'm not happy about".
"I really try to get him to eat all his food but..." Louis started.
"I know Louis, don't worry" Zayn interrupted "This is something that happens a lot with kids, specially if they're toddlers, it's hard to make them understand why it's important that they eat".
"But what happens if the medication doesn't work?" Louis asked.
"It probably will, so don't worry about it" the doctor said.
"Okay" Louis agreed.
"I'll come back later today to examine Matty when he's awake" Zayn said looking at the bed where Matty was sound asleep "Oh and Louis, I don't know if the the psychologist talked to you already, but she told me she thinks Matty is doing great considering everything".
A psychologist (Dr. Martin) that worked with kids with cancer had been coming every week to evaluate how Matty was coping with everything that was happening to him. She said that kids usually got really depressed because the lost of their hair, because they couldn't do the normal things they were used to do, and what specially affected them was that they were in a place that wasn't their home.
"Yes, she told me in her opinion Matty's not depressed " Louis said as he looked at Matty "But he gets so sad sometimes and I try to lift his spirits but sometimes it doesn't work ".
"It's normal that he cries and that he gets sad sometimes, but most of the time he seems happy to me, some of the kids on this floor haven't smiled in weeks" Zayn explained "I know this situation is hard for you and you're hurting, but I've noticed you never let Matty see it, and that helps him stay in good spirits; other parents cry in front of their kids constantly and that makes them even more sad".
"It's kind of a rule actually, no one is allowed to cry in front of Matty" Louis said.
"That's a great rule" Zayn said with a smile "You're a very good parent Louis".
"I try" Louis replied.
"Well it's working, most kids cry for days after their hair is shaved, but Matty isn't even upset about it, and that's because of what you did" Zayn said and motioned at Louis's head.
