{Later That Day}

Tony and Steve negotiated with Thor (after a battle that destroyed part of a forest) on bringing Loki back to base. You all sit around the table of the main floor back at the carrier, just having listened to Jesus speak with Loki in his chamber through the screen.

Bruce: He really grows on you, doesn't he?

Steve: Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?

Thor stands with his arms crossed, staring into blank space.

Thor: He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard, nor any world known.

He turns to the team and continues.

Thor: He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the Earth, in return, I suspect, for the Tesseract.

You: An army...from outer space.

Bruce: So, he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for.

Thor: Selvig?

Bruce: He's an astrophysicist.

Thor: He's a friend.

Andrea: Loki has him under some kind of spell along with one of ours.

Steve: I want to know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here.

Bruce: I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You could smell the crazy on him.

Thor: Have care of how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother.

Andrea: He has killed eighty people in two days.

Thor pauses.

Thor: He's adopted.

You: I think it's about mechanics. Iridium...what do they need the iridium for?

Tony walks into the room with Agent Aaron.

Tony: It's a stabilizing agent. It means the portal won't collapse on itself like it did at S.H.I.E.L.D.

Aaron walks off as Tony walks to the front of the table near Thor.

Tony: No hard feelings, Point Break. You've got a mean swing.

Tony taps Thor's bicep, leaving him in confusion.

Tony: Also, it means the portal can open as wide and stay open as long as Loki wants.

Tony starts commanding the agents below to open the windows, and spots one playing at his console.

Tony: That man is playing Galaga! He thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.

Steve looks around, not understanding what Tony was getting at. Stark finally explains that all Loki needs is a power source of high-energy density to kick start the Tesseract.

Maria: When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?

Tony shrugged.

Tony: Last night.

Steve: Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?

Bruce: He'd have to heat the Cube to 120-million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier.

You: Unless Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect.

Bruce: Well if he could do that he could achieve heavy ion fusion at any reactor on the planet.
