Even though I wasn't participating in the festival, I promised dad I would at least walk out onto the field with the rest of my class. I really wasn't paying attention to what everyone else had to say.

"What are you doing here Melody? I thought you weren't competing." Uraraka asks and I chuckle softly.

"I'm not, but dad wanted me to at least walk out with everyone else.

"Were not here to be each other's friends. Don't forget. This isn't a team effort." Todoroki says and I turn away from Uraraka to see what's going on.

"Wait a sec Todoroki. I don't know what's going through your head or why you think you'd need to tell me that you'll beat me. And, yeah, of course you're better than me. In fact, you probably have way more potential than anyone in the hero course. That's why you got in so easily."

"Midoriya, maybe you're being a little hard on yourself, and us." Kirishima pipes in, rubbing the back of his head.

"No, he's right, you guys. All the other courses they're coming for us with everything they've got. We're all gonna have to fight to stand out. And I'll be aiming for the top, too." Midoriya states in confidence.

"Fine..." Todoroki says in return. Before anyone could say anything else, dad's voice booms over the intercoms.

"Hey-o! Make some noise, all you rabid sports fans! Get those cameras prepped, media hordes! This year, we're bringing you some of the hottest performances in UA's festival history, guaranteed! I've only got one question before we start this show: Are you ready? Let me hear ya scream as our students make their way to the main stage!" We all make our way out onto the main field. "Welcome back to the UA sports festival. Where up-and-coming heroes leave everything on the field as they fight for the chance to achieve worldwide fame and celebrity! This first group are no strangers to the spotlight! You know them for withstanding a villain attack they're the dazzling students lighting up your TV's with solid-gold skills. That's right! It's the hero course students of class 1-A!" I look around at everyone as they talk among themselves. Dad really knew how to talk people up, it could even be a bit pressuring. "They haven't been getting nearly as much screentime, but this next group is still chock full of talent! Welcome, hero course class 1-B! Next up, general studies classes C, D, and E! Support classes F, G, and H! And finally, the business classes I, J and K! Give it up for all of UA's first year contestants!"

"Now, the introductory speech!" Midnight says, dressed in her hero costume.

"Uh, someone should talk to Ms. Midnight about what she's wearing." Kirishima whispers.

"Yeah. That costume should come with a warning." Kaminari replied.

"Silence, everyone! And for the student pledge, we have Katsuki Bakugo!" Bakugo walks up to the stage with his hands shoved in his pockets. This couldn't possibly be a good idea. It was Bakugo we were talking about after all.

"Uh... He's the first year rep?" Midoriya says, obviously worried as well about what was about to happen.

"I guess that hot head did finish first in the entrance tests." Sero shrugs slightly.

"I just wanna say... I'm gonna win." Bakugo states matter of factly. Why did we think anything different would happen?

"Why would you be so disrespectful? You're representing us all!" Iida scolds Bakugo.

"Not my fault the rest of you are just stepping stones to my victory." Bakugo walks off the stage, Iida still fussing at him for his choice of words.

"Without further ado, it's time for us to get started! This us where you begin feeling the pain! The first fateful game of the festival!" Midnight continues and a board comes up behind her with something spinning on it. "What could it be? Ta- dah! All 11 classes will participate in this treacherous contest. The track is four kilometers around outside of the stadium. I don't wanna restrain anyone, at least in this game. As long as you don't leave the course, you're free to do whatever your heart desires. Now then, take your places, Contestants." As everyone else went towards the gate, I headed in the opposite direction. I did as I promised and walked out onto the field with the rest of my class. That was all I planned on doing. "Begin!" The gate opens and all of the other students go racing through it to the point of getting stuck.
