Any idiot could tell that Cory was full of himself. Sitting next to me as if we were on terms that corresponded to us going on a date. I always sat next to Tonya or Josie and the boys sat across from us. Now Tonya took his old seat and her eyes never left the side of my face. I tried not to give in and let her know that I knew she was staring daggers into me. She had every right to be upset or even jealous. I wanted more for her to be with Cory than she probably wanted for herself. But how could I say no to someone who could easily exclude me from the only friend group I have.
"It's twelve thirty! You know what that means!" Josie clapped and hooted while clenching on to her phone in pure excitement. "It's been exactly forty-eight hours since I met Griffin!"
Everyone rolled their eyes except for me. Once again, I never matched the mood of the table. Was there some secret group chat I wasn't a part of for everyone to be so annoyed with her talking about Griffin?
"She likes him. Nothing wrong with that," I defended. "I'm proud of you. Next thing you know, you'll be telling us it's your one month anniversary."
"See! Tahlia gets it!" She then said her goodbyes and rushed off to go meet with Griffin with the great lips.
When are we going to meet the guy?
Cory rested his chin on my shoulder to whisper something in my ear. It sent unwelcome chills down my spine. "Do you ever think for yourself?"
"What?" I jerked my head away from him in shock. We stared at each other with such disgust and I knew this couldn't be worth it. "You're saying just whatever comes out of your-"
"I'm just saying that you didn't have to agree to that shit. She talks about Griffin every second and here you are trying to kiss her ass."
I gawked at his rude tone in the way he was speaking to me. I had to take a look around to make sure no one else could hear him and I going back and forth. Luckily, everyone did their own thing and picked up their own conversations.
"I'm not kissing her ass. She's my friend. I'm being supportive."
He chuckled lightly. "You wouldn't know the difference." Suddenly, he stood up and took me with him. I was forced to my feet and had to play it off like it was nothing to me. "I'm going to walk Tahlia to class. We will catch you guys after school."
"Don't get pregnant!" Tonya yelled out with a huge smile on her face. It was fake and anyone could tell.
She and Victor looked me down as we walked out of the lunchroom. His hand forced around mine. I couldn't keep up with his long strides and his constant need to say hi to every single person who spoke back to him. All of his friends were in the jock category yet he hung out with a bunch of random students from different activities. Me being a part of none.
"Is there somewhere we're going in particular. My class was that way."
"Class doesn't start until another five minutes. You'll be fine." The arrogance in his voice as he told me what to do was beyond distasteful. I would ran hear nails on a chalkboard than him saying anything at all. "I wanted to talk to you about... Victor and Cynthia." The names came out of his mouth as if it was a random thought. "What do you think of them?"
I shrugged nonchalantly. "I thought they were nothing." He nodded in agreement. "Wait, Victor told you about him and Cynthia? Did they... do anything?"
"Nosy aren't we?" He smirked. "I actually don't give a fuck about them two. I just know she's super hot and Victor wanted to bang but he didn't. I actually wanted to ask you why the fuck Tonya is staring at me like I killed her entire family. You and the girls talk nonstop and you can't lie to me because I find out everything."
