"There was so much going on. He was zig zagging and dodging. You have to be ready for everything that comes your way because you can be quick but there is always someone quicker."
I tried my best to listen to everything Cory said but his voice was intensely muffled in my head. My brain was spinning a million times a minute and my heart was pounding just as fast. This is what I was scared of. Going back and ruining myself all over again.
"Are you even listening to what I just said? He scored the winning point!" I jumped a little when Cory grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me. "I have to take you to one of the hockey games this upcoming season. You have to see it to really understand it."
Just then, Josie and Victor walked into the cafeteria while going on and on about something that obviously had them both upset. "Cory!" Josie slammed both her palms on the table. "Tell Victor that it's his fault we're grounded and now me and the Tigerettes can't go to Lacie's studio to get more practice on our number!"
He just stared at her in complete confusion which made me want to laugh if I weren't too nervous to move. "Josie... I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about."
She stomped her foot at his unwanted response then pointed to Victor. "This dumbass ran away last night and won't tell my parents where he went. Now they think I'm lying about not knowing where he went and we're both stuck in the house all weekend."
Cory sighed. "Victor... just tell your dad where the hell you went."
"No." Is all he said while taking a seat right next to me. I swear I was sweating bullets right now. "If I spill it, I'd have to find somewhere new." His knee brushed up against mine causing my skin to tingle. "And that would be no fun."
"Welp, I tried Josie," Cory shrugged. "Anyway. I meet Tahlia's parents on Saturday and she meets mine on Sunday. So whatever Erikkson was talking about in the group chat will have to wait."
Victor chuckled. "He was talking about his birthday this weekend. The big old seventeen."
"What!?" Josie stomped. "Why weren't us girls informed."
"Because it's for us boys," Victor responded. "Plus you're grounded this weekend so you can't even go."
"And so are you," she argued. "And if you try to sneak out I'm telling dad because I'm not going down for your streak of being a terrible child." She flipped her hair from one side to the other with plenty of sass. "Come with me, Talia. Let the new friend group discuss dick sizes."
Cory chuckled. "We did that last year. Guess it's time for an update." Victor laughed along to the joke. "Do you girls measure nipple sizes in the girls bathroom? Because no way it takes you all that long to piss." They broke out into another fit of laughter that I was right in the middle of. "Or what is that other thing?" Cory reached over me to nudge Victor.
"Ass sizes," he snorted. Oh, Cory really loved that response. "I hear Josie in the mirror all the time asking herself if it grew." He looked at his sister who stood in front of us completely red in the cheeks.
"But we all know Talia was the winner." All eyes landed on Cory who was too busy snickering at his own joke to notice.
Victor fixed his fearful face and gave me a small smile. "But it's not offensive. It's actually a compliment." He shrugged and went back to playing a game on his phone. "And since you have plans this weekend, Josie, I'll tell dad where I was. No reason for you to go down sad."
She stomped her foot in annoyance before finally taking a seat across the table. "You did all that shit this morning to-"
"Fuck with you? Yes."
