part 7

i'm driving home from work and stop to pick up amelia from the sitter. i don't really know how she is going to react with jay coming over tonight, but i'm excited and i think he is too. i knock on the door and the sitter opened it and let me in. i see millie on the floor playing with some toys and when she sees me, she runs up and jumps into my arms. "momma" she said. "hi baby" i caught up the the sitter for a few and we eventually left. when i buckled amelia into her seat i got a text from jay:
jay: what time?
hailey: i just pick me up amelia so maybe around 6:30?
jay: i'll be there
yay. he's coming. i got in the car and millie was trying to tell me about her day but honestly i couldn't understand her at all. "hey do you remember when we went over to kim's house and you played with jay there?" i asked her. "jay like tag?" she asked. "yes the one you played will almost all night." i said. i could see her face light up from my mirror. "i like him mama. hims nice" she said. thank god she's excited. "well he's coming over tonight for dinner. he wants to see you again" i said. "REALLY" she said happy. i smiled "yes baby". she giggled in her seat and i drove the back to my apartment. when we got there, i picked up a few of amelias toys that were lying around and made a quick dinner. i sat on the couch while she played until i heard a knock on my door. i got up and millie didn't even notice. i opened the door and jay was standing with flowers. "what a guy" i said letting him. "they are for both you and millie." he said smiling. "mama?" amelia said walking into the room. she saw jay and gasped. he gasped too she she jumped into his arms. i smiled seeing them bond together. she jumped back down and ran into the room to grabs some toys to play with. "fair warning, she's going to have you watching moana by the end on the night." was i told him. it's her favorite movie and we watch it 24/7. "what a coincidence. it's my favorite movie" he said. i smiled at him and we just stood there for a minute. it wasn't awkward or anything. it was actually really nice.
millie ran into the room and brought many of her favorite toys for them to play with. "play" she said grabbing jays hand. he looked at me and laughed, walking over to play with her. i finished making dinner and we sat down and ate. jay was just absolutely in love with her and laughed at everything she did. "mama we watch moana?" amelia asked, finishing her food. i looked at jay and smirked. "told you. yes we can watch it" i said. she smiled and ran to the couch with her blanket. he laughed and helped me pick up plates and wipe off the table. i put a plate in the sink and when i turned around jay was standing right there. we smiled at each other and he looked me in the eyes. "she really likes you jay" i said. we both looked over to the couch where she was sitting, waiting for us to come sit with her. i looked back at him and his eyes came back to mine. "well i really like her. and you." he said. his hands were on both sides on the sink, me in the middle. i was smiling like a fool and i was going to tell him i felt the same way until amelia came running over. "are we watching it mama" she said. we both laughed. "yes we're coming" i said. she jumped in my arms and we all walked over to the couch. we sat down with amelia in between us. within the first 25 minutes, millie was already half asleep, laying on my chest with her blanket. "do you want to go to sleep baby?" i asked her. she nodded and i stood up with her in my arms. jay looked at me and i gave him the look to come with me. everyone should get to see a child being put to bed right? he stood up and walked to her room with me and i went to put her in her bed. i kissed her head goodnight and he watched from the door. i tucked her in one more time and walked to her door. she already fell asleep before we even shut the door. "she's perfect isn't she" i said. "yes she is" he said. we walked back over to the couch and put on a movie. we made small talk and eventually got close together. i didn't even know how late it got until i got a text from my mom at it was 10:30. "i guess i should probably get going" jay said standing up. i got up too and walked with him to the door. "thank you for tonight. i had fun and obviously so did she" i said laughing. he looked at me and smiled. "you're a really good mom hailey. you're perfect" he said. i looked down because i didn't want him to see me blushing. he just knows what to say to make me blush and i just can't help but do it. i really do like jay and amelia loves him. he tilts my face back up and tucks my hair behind my ear. in that moment i had forgotten all the hurt that i have felt in my life, he made it go away. in the next few seconds my lips are on his. i have never felt like this. he cares. not only about me, amelia too. he loves her. after a few seconds he pulled away and we smiled at each other. "i'll see you at work?" he said with his face still close to mine. i nodded and he kissed me one more time. he opened the door and stepped out. i shut it behind him and slid down the door. wow that just happened. i can't believe that just happened.
